Did You Know? One notification icon, two different meanings on Connect

Hello Fellow Local Guides,

We are all familiar with this notification icon - a plain white circle without any symbol inside it. Until now, we have generally understood it to indicate “a new topic from someone you are following.” Below is the illustrated example for reference:

However, with the introduction of multiple reaction options instead of just the Like option, this familiar notification icon has gained another meaning as well.

Earlier, we had only the Like Like option. Now, we have seven different reaction emojis to express our feelings and respond to a post.

With this change, the plain white circular notification icon now has an additional meaning.

Whenever someone reacts to your post with an emoji other than :heart_suit:, you will receive a notification with this same plain white circular icon.

In simple terms, the icon now has two possible meanings:

  • New topic: Someone you follow has posted a new topic.
  • New reaction: Someone has reacted to your post using an emoji other than :heart_suit:.

The next time you come across this plain white circular notification icon, remember that it may not necessarily indicate a new topic. It could also be notifying you that someone has reacted to your post with emoji other than :heart_suit:.

It’s a small change to the notification system, but an important distinction to be aware of.

To make this clearer, here are illustrations showing how the same notification icon appears for each of the other SIX reactions, apart from :heart_suit:.

Please feel free to share your insights and experiences in the comments below. Let’s discuss and learn together.

Sharing is Learning. :heart_suit:

Let’s continue building an informed, connected, and stronger :flexed_biceps: community together.

Stay Happy, Stay Healthy!

JAI HO!!!

Whoa, good catch Santosh! I was honestly so confused the other day why a follow notification looked totally different, this clears it up completely.
