How to increase visibility on Sustainability ♻ on Google Maps

Hello Fellow LGs,

We do our best to save our Mother Planet - ‘The Earth’ in whatever capacity we can do in our day-to-day life. It is our responsibility to take action towards preserving the nature and choosing sustainability.

To further support this, we have got a wonderful platform as a Google Maps through which we can help in choosing eco-friendly place and sustainability. Even our small contribution will make a difference.

We are grateful to the Local Guides team at Google who works relentlessly on our feedback and suggestion for improvement. One such example is to add the sustainability tag explicitly on Connect. The request was made in March 2025 here and through the feedback form and the Sustainability tag was added to Connect on June 04, 2025.

As a Local Guide, we can contribute in many ways[1] to Increase Visibility on Sustainability.

One of the simplest yet effective ways to help others choose Sustainability :recycling_symbol: by answering simple yes/no questions related to recycling to help others on Google Maps app[2] as shown in the below photos[3].

Please read this post to know more about ‘How to find and answer simple yes/no questions to help others on Google Maps’.

Hope you find this post useful.

Keep building a well-informed community stronger together.

Stay Happy, Stay Healthy!

I would like to add one more thing about sustainability to this post. For those who are newcomers, whenever you post a review of any electronic departmental store, check if there is any recycling point there because all the big departmental electronic stores in India have created a recycling point in their stores, so you can show it in your review through emojis like this.

The more and more we talk and share the more awareness is created. Well informed awareness leads to the implemented practices.

I always emphasize on the awareness coupled with implementation and that’s where everyone should be contributing without any vintage baggage.

There are many ways as talked here:

but not only limited to these implemented practices.

Many similar questions are flashed basis the category of the Places one visits. Google Maps has its own well defined algorithm and within that scope a lot can be done.

Thanks @ShailendraOjha for sharing one of such examples.

Great post highlighting the importance of promoting sustainability on Google Maps @Kumaarsantosh ji.

Answering those simple yes/no questions about recycling and eco-friendly practices is indeed a powerful way for Local Guides to increase visibility of sustainable places.

To add, regularly reviewing and updating these details on places you visit can help keep information accurate and fresh. Also, encouraging others in the community to contribute their insights creates a bigger impact.

Perfectly worded @NandKK. If followed and practiced these tips, Google maps become more cleaner and informative for the users and the community. And, to make it happen Local Guides have to step forward with such good practices.

Thank you for sharing your views and appreciating the way it should be.
