How to quote comments in the reply on New Connect

Hello Fellow LGs,

The New Connect is transitioning well and our feedback on New Connect is taken into consideration in a positive and progressive way. We are heard by the Googlers and the Local Guides team. The actions are been taken as appropriate after proper due diligence on our feedback. Please do not hesitate to share your feedback. Please read FAQ.

A new welcome change is introduced to reply to the previous comments. Earlier a text box to type the reply used to be at the extreme bottom of the post. Now, a new message box pops up as soon as reply icon is clicked on desktop.

This is helpful in writing either a simple reply to the previous comment or with quoting the previous comment in the reply.

This post is intended to help and explain the steps to quote comments in the reply on New Connect.

Steps:

For desktop browsers to use ‘Quote’

Step 1: Select the texts to be quoted in the reply and click on ‘Quote’ as shown in Photo1.

Step 2 : On clicking ‘Quote’, a message box to type reply with the above selected quote will pop up as shown in Photo2.

Step 3 : Type the reply text and click on ‘Reply’ button as shown in Photo3.

Step 4 : On clicking ‘Reply’ button, it will appear as shown in Photo4. You are done.

For desktop browsers to use ‘Copy Quote’

Step A: Select the texts to be quoted in the reply, click on ‘Copy Quote’ and then click on reply icon as shown in Photo5.

Step B: On clicking reply icon, a message box to type reply will pop up as shown in Photo6.

Step C : Paste the earlier ‘Copy Quote’ as in Step A, here in the new message box as shown in Photo7.

Step D : Type the reply text and click on ‘Reply’ button as shown in Photo8.

Step E : On clicking ‘Reply’ button, it will appear as shown in Photo9. You are done.

Happy showing and shining well crafted reply.

Thank you for appreciating the effort @SaylliWalve1.

I was getting couple of queries around this as I am one of the frequent users of this feature. Hence, thought of jotting it down together for everyone’s benefit.

Thanks for crafting an impressive tutorial for quoting from posts in replies @Kumaarsantosh

I greatly appreciate the neat and clear screenshots that illustrate the concept.

An additional way to quote that I found by habit is:

Copy a line from a post using regular Ctrl + C on the keyboard.
After that, when I click the Reply button, the copied text is automatically inserted as quoted text.

Note: I have tested this on the Edge browser only. So not sure if it will work on other browsers.

Thank you @TusharSuradkar for your kind words.

Yes - it does work on Chrome as well.

This has only one limitation of using it in a new reply only.

E.g. In this reply of mine the first quote I have used through selecting “Quote’ and clicking on reply icon. Then I tried copy the other line starting with 'An additional way to…”, it did not allow and then I just used ‘Copy Quote’ option.

In case of new and only reply, your suggested option as given below is quite fast and useful.
