A new category is flashed now under Number of Contributions as in the photo below. This is observed on Android but not available as yet for desktop users.
What is this all about? Interesting to know.
Is this count of reporting incorrect addresses or photo shared at incorrect location or incorrect road drawn or something else?
Points to ponder.
Update as on 08-March-2024
Reported incorrect shows the points earned when we go to Edit information through ‘Suggest an edit’ option for a POI and then check the box ‘Do not know, but this is incorrect’ under any of these tabs: Place name, Category, Location. Example is shown in Photo 1. Once it gets submitted it goes through the accuracy check by Google. Once accepted ‘1’ point is awarded to the contributor and it reflects as shown in Photo 2.
This is a result of test performed by me on ‘Reported incorrect’ category under Number of Contributions.
Yes sir @MortenCopenhagen ji same here in my app also, but may be your idea is correct & may be it’s experiment of Google map for wrong draw & wrong edit in road map by individual users so we can report them, it’s wrong map edit … it’s my opinion @Kumaarsantosh@Amiran
@Kumaarsantosh while often obvious, I find with these types of posts that it can be useful to mention whether you are talking about the desktop/windows app or mobile app. Also useful to provide steps taken to get there. Thanks for posting.
The wrong Road drawing means that a road like a haunted Road, danger zone road, restricted Road… Rocky climbing roads… many more customary roads. so you can report that it’s Road is right or wrong ! it’s my view, the world is bigger than me & you. dear @Kumaarsantosh thank you for comment.
I agree with @AdamGT that when reporting such potential new features, please test across all three platforms and ensure screenshots are showing the context.
I think we are going somewhere else due to change in the subject of this post. I am changing it to the orginal subject line. It was about observing New Category as ‘Reported incorrect’ and in the message body, couple of questions were asked along with my understanding to get validated.
That’s really interesting @Kumaarsantosh ! I don’t think it is related to making corrections for roads, as I would expect that to be called “Road edits”. But counting the number of photos you report as ‘not belonging to this place’ would definitely make sense. The community has been pointing out (trying to avoid the word ‘complaining’ here ) that reporting those is very time consuming (especially since you can only report 1 at a time) and that there is 0 incentive for this in terms of points. In my view, even just 1 point per photo would be an easy way to get loads of points (check out POIs close to a famous monument, they sometimes have more pics of the momument than of the actual POI).
Have you tried experimeting a bit to check if you can get the counter up from that current 0? Could you try removing an incorrect photo and see what happens? Do you get a splash screen about points? (I just tested and I still get the usual “Thanks for your feedback”).
And where is it in the list of categories? At the bottom or somewhere in the middle?
Thanks @JanVanHaver for explaining it beautifully to construed appropriately.
Yes - I concur fully with you that it is not meant for the corrections for roads.
Pointing out photo at wrong place is definitely a pain and takes lot of time to report. Not only that we do not even know when and what action has been taken on our reported fact. Though we get an email from ‘No reply’ about report submission. So, possibly this could be one of the aspects of ‘Reported incorrect’ category.
Yes I did experiment such step for photo but the counter did not move from ‘0’.
This reflects at number 8 from the top in the List of categories. The screenshot of list of categories is below. 'Reported incorrect ’ is in red box.
Interesting @Kumaarsantosh that it is positioned between Edits and Places added - it makes me wonder if it could be about reporting fake/spam/duplicate POIs as “does not exist here”
So far I have tested for some of the suggested ones where I was sure about ‘duplicate place’, ‘does not exist here’; but the count is still showing as ‘0’ (Zero).
