Are you someone who enjoys helping others by updating information on Google Maps? You can help by flagging when something is incorrect, even if you are unable to provide the correct details at that moment.
Here’s how it works:
Search for a place or select it on the map.
Select “Suggest an edit” from the place listing.
Select the item you wish to update, like the business name or operating hours.
Make a change or select “Don’t know, but this is incorrect” if you don’t know the right details.
Tip: You can also add more items that need updating from the menu at the top of the editing screen.
Approved edits will continue to earn 5 points while selecting “Don’t know, but this is incorrect” brings 1 point per editing submission, regardless of the number of details updated. All of this takes place in a more streamlined “Suggest an edit” interface on Android, and will come to iOS soon, too.
Letting us know what information is incorrect helps us identify where we might need to make updates.
Local Guides, what’s your favorite type of edit to make?
Thanks for sharing with us dear Googler @Julie_A .
Now days i serch incorrect reported & try to correct edit on Google map here is one of example incorrect reported edit by myself & correct edit live on Google map.
Thanks for the update @Julie_A I like the new editing interface
That new “Don’t know, but is incorrect” checkbox is weird, because I think the amount of cases that we don’t know the name of a business (when editing ) is extremely low.
I thought that the “Reported Incorrect” was going to measure the bad/incorrect contributions that we flagged, photos included.
Thanks for the info.
I would be willing to use it if the opportunity arises.
Sometimes there are a lot of mistakes in the photos. Wish I could delete those, etc. …
1: bring this also to the website maps.google.com so that I can do this kind of edits also by using the pc.
2: please clarify: should I use “I don’t know but this is incorrect” also when I know what should be the edit?
I hope we are training the ai models too by using this “I don’t know but this is incorrect” thing.
I often do corrections of categorisations and I often edit categorisations of a type of poi’s: public binns that are categorised as “Garbage dump” but should be categorised as “Recycling drop-off location”. I thought if I could indicate that “Garbage dump” is incorrect (so I know when this is incorrect and I could indicate this explicitely) and then edit the category to “Recycling drop-off location”, this would help the ai model to recognise bottle banks (for naming just one type of poi) with the incorrect categorisation.
So, must I use that “I don’t know but this is incorrect” thing in this case or should I simply edit the category? If there were also an option “this is incorrect” +after indicating this a way to do the edit, this incorrection is explicitely mentioned and so I can train ai models. I compare this with the teacher or spell checker who’s using a red line as marker for indicating errors. If the teacher or spell checker would simply write down the correct answer without using the red line for marking the error, the user or child won’t learn they made a fault and couldn’t find out what should be corrected.
Hope this is al distinctly explained, I know my English isn’t so good.
This is good news for all LG, I Happy to see this our map is becoming better day by day and soon it will break record in All Prospective, our Community, LG are Contributing to make people life more easier or accessible on earth Through Google map
I make corrections as often as possible. I am a fan of FACTS which is a very good thing for the people that I am making sure are being provided the Factual information for every situation because the FACTS are necessary and crucial when forming an opinion. I know that I only want to be well informed with the true ACTS about people, places and the News when I meet, go to or think about it because FACTS matter especially when making important decisions. Often when I present the FACTS it is a bad thing for whomever I am correcting. There are a lot of people who will argue with and fight you tooth and nail to defend and hold onto something that is incorrect instead of accepting the true FACTS. When I get this response the discussion almost always devolves into a pointless argument that I then have to step out of I call this type of response “Willful Ignorance” o or “Deliberate Ignorance” most of the time, but sometimes I toss in other descriptors to change it up.
Anyway, I appreciate that you have shared this information because I believe that every Guide should know how to do this.
@Julie_A genial post, este fin de semana tuve algunos problemas para editar en maps pero espero que se solucione ya que se había informado que habían algunos problemas.
@Julie_A This is going to make edit steps more correct and realistic in Google Maps. I have to confess that opening hours in businesses , parks ,public spaces ,entertaiment ,etc , are in many places to be edited in Google Maps and make it right. So I do. GOOD CHANCE EVERYBODY.
