The clock tower of the University of Detroit Mercy in Michigan was by far the largest that I have come across.

I caught sight of this giant clock tower from a mile away as @keithlabeau and @Erna_LaBeau drove me to their place in their campervan.

Keith, knowing my fascination for clock towers, drove us around the tower so I could take many photos from various angles. Many thanks to both for this :hugs:

Though the best were in the direction of the sun that afternoon.

This clock tower on top of the university buildings was not an ornament or show of power, as many perceive.

It had many practical uses that served many.
The office and classes would start and end at the sound of the hour.

Students and employees alike would take breaks and set their timetables when not everyone had cellphones or personal wrist watches.

Clock towers are a utility to hundreds in their vicinity, knowingly or unknowingly.
