Because they are hidden from plain sight, little do we realize that marine life is the largest affected group of living beings due to pollution created on the ground.
A large part of the garbage, both solid and liquid, flows down the drain and into the streams that eventually end up in the ocean. The aquatic animals suffer greatly due to this.
This fact was highlighted effectively at an exhibit at the Belle Island Aquarium in Detroit.
I visited there in June 2025, thanks to the free ride by the adorable LG couple @Erna_LaBeau and @keithlabeau 
This display strongly conveys how marine creatures are affected due to the various non-degradable products on land, like plastic cans, straws, bags, etc.
This was an eye-opener for me.
Talking about the accessibility features, there were accessible washroom toilets and parking too.
The aquarium also provided Sensory Bags…
Sensory bags are meant for people with disabilities and are specially designed kits or everyday bags that provide calming, supportive sensory experiences.
They help individuals manage sensory challenges in daily life and are often used by people with autism, ADHD, sensory processing disorder, or other conditions where sensory input can feel overwhelming or disorienting.
Besides that, the regular wheelchairs were available as well.
I noted that the washroom toilets were accessible for a wheelchair-bound person.
Another prominent feature on display about sustainability awareness was a large illustration of how to avoid using microplastics and single-use plastics.
The washrooms had a large access ramp to facilitate easy access for a wheelchair.
Other noteworthy features at the Belle Island Aquarium included a donation counter, a drinking water fountain, and a gift shop.

Though the hall is not very large, the variety of sea creatures was enough to keep a curious visitor like me amused and busy for an hour
