The Horace E. Dodge Fountain in downtown Detroit is probably the world’s most unique fountain.
I visited here in June 2025 and was astonished to see the various landmarks around it.
Here’s the view of the fountain looking west.
In the background are the World Headquarters of the top 3 automobile companies, General Motors, Chevrolet, and Ford.
Fun Fact: Detroit is the only place in the United States where people travel south to reach Canada. ![]()
Elsewhere, Canada can only be reached by traveling north.

A little history of the fountain as told by the locals…
Anna Thompson Dodge was the widow of automobile pioneer Horace E. Dodge.
She gave two million dollars in 1971 to construct a fountain to honor her husband and son.
The stainless steel fountain sculpture is 30 feet high and is composed of a ring suspended between two inwardly canted supports
A black granite pool is directly under the ring.
The fountain was designed by Isamu Noguchi, an influential sculptor and designer in the US.
The fountain is located in the Hart Plaza, which is accessible from the main street called Jefferson Avenue.
This fountain, due to its amazing 360° views, is the world’s most unique fountain.
