Following the request by @MortenCopenhagen and a long term idea(Though it wasn’t clear) we have decided to write an Index page or a what would you like to know about TRAC post. I had this idea faintly sometime ago about writing a post where we can find everything and anything relating to TRAC initiative. I appreciate the inspiration and discussion with Morten. I have always valued his knowledge about connect maps,everything and anything relating to the local guides program. Here you are now and feel free to suggest more update or idea regarding this index page post or even for TRAC itself. We will start with what Google as team said about TRAC. Thank-you-for-mapping-50-000-roads-on-Google-Maps. . This was a pleasant surprise to us to be featured on connect by the local guides team.

We are always ready to tutor and motivate local guides on Adding roads. We have a number of very professional and active road champions on our TRAC who are always ready to connect with you.
N.B please note that participations to local guides is not always open for now. We often Put alot of emphasis on proper and accurate drawing of roads as opposed to having high figures on roads which is quite tempting. We put emphasis on quality above quantity always. We also put much emphasis on active and infact very active members. Admissions of local guides for participation often depends on our seasons of participation. The greatest season of participation and climax of activities is often 23rd of March every year and that’s coming up very soon. Keep active on connect and you surely will see our posts around. Very simple form for participation is often necessary to be filled just for simple record purposes. participation on the telegram group is very optional and strictly about roads and other miscellaneous local guides activities as opposed to just a medium of hello hi purposes.
Now without delay I’ll write in here a very brief history of how and why TRAC came into existence.
- I’ll have to always tag @JanVanHaver here because reading his post “How-to-get-rid-of-that-annoying-0-for-Roads added …” inspired me to get rid my zero or add more zeros of value on added roads. I dived into adding roads and got a few approvals at the beginning. It was quite slow at the beginning of it but then the road editor tool came into existence and that increased my desire to get more roads added or drawn on the maps. I did get a good number drawn on my own before I introduced TRAC initiative Maybe I should quickly add too that @ErmesT has always been a champion on roads and a prominent participant on TRAC. I read a few Of his posts too on roads. All these posts got me going on roads. As it stands now @MarcoDavoli is our very prominent and accurate statistician.
Now the main crust of the history. I was adding roads and a few others were adding roads as well. Nevertheless it would seem that adding roads wasn’t popular among local guides. It still isn’t popular but at least its better in comparison to what it used to be. Then the penny dropped for me.
- Seeing I am this motivated about roads,why not motivate other local guides to help you add roads? This way we can create an awareness on drawing roads. We can improve the maps. We can learn from one another etc.
I discussed this with @LovePathak28 and he became my first Co-host on this idea. He was very hardworking and enthusiastic for a good while. We were both the local champions on the block till @Lukas_1 and some others stepped in on the game. The scene changed for the good and the idea thrived and continued to thrive. Therefore on the 23rd of March 2023 we wrote our 1st post about TRAC on connect. We also created a Telegram group for very informal and quick means of communication and interactions as local gguides. We quickly gained ground and got many local guides motivated and joined the team. We had about 80 local guides registered to participate of which about 50% wasn’t active. We have since reviewed the aims,objectives and rules of the initiatives.
- We will endeavour not to account for inactive or dormant members when announcing our results on connect.
- We will be ready to tutor local guides privately until you have at least 10 approved roads before you can officially join TRAC
- Accuracy and correct drawing of roads as opposed to rush rush for high figures and shoddy road drawing practices.
- We are open to vibrant ideas and ways to better or improve the initiative viz a viz improve roads on Google maps.
Our initial first target was 3,000 roads which we achieved very quickly. Below is the progress we made so far on roads.
- After 3 weeks of activities 2023-TRAC-Week-3-Report-1-285-Roads
- Fait-accompli-TRAC-3k-road-target-reached. We achieved our 3k on about a month
- We decided then to challenge ourselves and we increased the target to 10,000 roads.
- We got this TRAC-2months-record-8-913-Roads.
- We achieved TRAC-10-000-New-Roads-Achieved.
- We made a final decision to set A-TRAC-New-Target-50K-New-Roads. . We made -25k-approved-roads-TRAC, also another TRAC-Reports-Graph-30k-almost there, the next was Celebrating-35k-approved-roads-TRAC.
- We made good progress and here is Preparing-For-Landing-TRAC-50K. We wrote another TRAC-Graphical-Report-5th-Month. After about 6 months Announcement-Finally-50k-approved-roads-achieved-TRAC !!!
Since we got together as a team of local guides we have organised 2 meet ups on TRAC as an initiative.

Of recent we organised Stay-On-TRA-Brief-Event. That was our last activity as a group. That lasted for only 21 days just to keep active and not get rusty. With a week of the even we achieve 4-5k-approved-roads-in-a-week-TRAC.
We didn’t set any target,but we achieved Stay-On-TRAC-10-000-Roads-21-days !!! As at today we are preparing to start activities posts discussions etc in the greatest season of our Initiative 23rd March 2024 !!!
