Where Mapping Meets Purpose

To me, Local Guides Connect and Google Maps are platforms grounded in the core philosophy of Share–Learn–Share, encouraging collaboration, supporting the user community, and driving collective growth. Learning here is multi-dimensional, and one of the most effective and meaningful ways to grow is through learning by doing. This hands-on approach is what truly makes the Connect community unique and distinct from many other platforms.

Every member of this community is both a contributor and a learner, evolving day by day as we adapt to changing dynamics, whether in processes, tools, or technology. Growth here is continuous and collective, driven by real experiences, experimentation, and shared insights.

Moreover, it is important to recognize that people play a crucial role in this ecosystem. Changes in people, perspectives, and participation have a significant impact on both processes and technology. Together, these elements shape the community, making it a vibrant, collaborative space where learning never stops and contributions truly matter.

To begin with, my approach to road mapping has always been driven by intrinsic motivation rather than any external influence. I contribute purely out of passion and with the genuine intention of supporting end users who depend on accurate, reliable, and up-to-date map data. While my contributions may not always be high in volume or completed at a rapid pace, I remain steady, consistent, and deeply committed to the process.

Over the past month or so, I have observed that most of my road submissions have been approved within a day or two. This may be linked to the fact that I map a manageable number of roads each day, certainly not in large volumes or hundreds at a time. However, this is simply an observation based on my experience and not a definitive conclusion.

In my approach to road mapping, I primarily focus on drawing roads that create meaningful connections between two existing roads. The intent behind this is to enhance overall network continuity and improve navigation for end users. By ensuring that newly added roads integrate seamlessly into the existing road structure, the map becomes more accurate, functional, and user-friendly.

This approach may have had a positive influence on the approval rate of my submissions, as connected roads are often easier to validate and align well with the broader road network. However, this is merely an observation based on my experience, and I cannot say with certainty that it is the sole or direct reason for the outcomes. Nevertheless, prioritizing connectivity and logical road integration remains a key part of my mapping philosophy.

The journey forward should continue with the same commitment, dedication, and sense of purpose with which the TRAC program was originally launched. TRAC has created a valuable platform that enables many individuals to learn, contribute, and actively participate in road mapping. More importantly, these collective efforts are making a tangible impact by enhancing accessibility and improving the quality of life for countless users around the world.

Challenges and occasional setbacks are an inherent part of any initiative that aims to create meaningful and lasting impact. They are not signs of failure, but rather opportunities to pause, reflect, and improve. At times, factors such as a slower approval process or a higher volume of rejections may feel discouraging and can momentarily affect the morale of TRACians. These moments are understandable, as every contributor invests time, effort, and passion into the journey.

That said, the strength of TRAC lies in its solid foundation, a committed core team, dedicated Road Mapping Champions, and the wealth of experience they collectively bring. Guided by a clear, shared vision and supported by thoughtful leadership, these challenges can be addressed constructively, transparently, and with confidence.

As we look toward 2026, this is an opportunity to move forward with renewed energy, optimism, and unity. Let us embrace continuous learning, resilience, and collaboration as we turn the page to a new chapter of the TRAC journey, one driven by progress, purpose, and collective growth.

It is also important to note that approval patterns are not always predictable. I have been receiving approvals almost daily over the past couple of weeks for recently mapped roads.

I would like to take this opportunity to share an important message and encourage everyone here by emphasizing that success in road mapping and in any meaningful contribution comes through the power of perseverance and passion. Equally important is surrounding yourself with a group of like-minded individuals who share the same vision, enthusiasm, and commitment. Together, this combination creates momentum, motivation, and sustained progress.

So, what are you waiting for? The TRAC 2026 campaign is just around the corner and eagerly awaits your participation. This is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and actively contribute toward shaping the future of Google Maps by improving accessibility, accuracy, and usability for millions of users worldwide.

For those who may be wondering whether support is available for beginners, the answer is a definite YES. There are numerous guidance materials and helpful resources available on Local Guides Connect. In addition, we have already conducted a dedicated meetup session focused on Road Editing for Beginners. I encourage you to go through the detailed recap of that session, as it provides practical insights and step-by-step guidance that can be immensely helpful as you begin or strengthen your journey. You can find all the relevant information and support here: Index Page For TRAC-All You Need To Know

I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone for your cooperation and contributions, whether direct or indirect toward this road mapping journey. Every effort matter, and each contribution adds value to the larger goal.

And the journey certainly continues. I will be sharing the next update soon upon reaching the milestone of 10K road additions. Let us keep moving forward together with the same enthusiasm and dedication.

Truly amazing post coach @Kumaarsantosh
Your dedication and consistency in drawing roads is inspiring and appreciable. As we approach TRAC2026, we all hope to have a better approval rate for adding roads.
Your approach to draw selective roads regularly and try to add two connecting roads may very well be a game-changer approach to getting better approval rates. Thanks for sharing this insightful post @Kumaarsantosh

Thank you, @Kumaarsantosh, for sharing such a deeply insightful and inspiring post. :folded_hands:

Your philosophy of learning by doing and contributing with purpose truly reflects the core spirit of Local Guides Connect. I especially appreciate your emphasis on consistency, intrinsic motivation, and meaningful road connectivity rather than focusing on volume alone. These reflections are extremely valuable for both new and experienced road mappers.

I also feel proud to say that you are my mentor—someone with whom I frequently discuss ideas and challenges over phone calls. Thank you for always giving me your time and patiently discussing things at length. Your guidance and openness mean a lot to me and have helped shape my understanding and approach to road mapping.

The way you connected personal experience with the broader vision of TRAC and the road ahead toward TRAC 2026 makes this post even more impactful. It’s a strong reminder that perseverance, patience, and community support play a crucial role in creating real-world impact through mapping.

Thank you once again for your leadership, support, and continued commitment to strengthening Google Maps for users worldwide. Looking forward to learning more from your journey and future updates.

I really appreciate the way you frame mapping as something more than just pin placement or road tracing. Your point about learning by doing and contributing with purpose definitely resonates. @Kumaarsantosh

It’s clear that when we focus on making meaningful connections between roads and improving navigation for real users, the contributions have more impact and a deeper purpose. I also like how you highlight persistence and passion over volume.

@Kumaarsantosh Congratulations! It is good to hear you are getting approvals within a day or two. Which is remarkable. It is not so much in my case. things have changed in recent times for me.

Great post @Kumaarsantosh . Your detailed information really helps people in a very big way :folded_hands:

Thank you, dear @Kumaarsantosh sir, for sharing this so thoughtfully.
Your passion, clarity, and purpose-driven approach to road mapping are truly inspiring. Grateful for the learning, guidance, and motivation you continue to give to the community. Looking forward to the journey ahead together.

Thanks @Kumaarsantosh for sharing this story. Road is one of the most fundamental aspects of the map, to make map being usable by its reader for navigation. You have amazing achievement about that.

Yes, we all are very optimistic. Thank you @Ssiddharth2000 for your kind words.

Thank you @SharmaK for your candid remarks. I am thankful for your great companionship.

Thank you @jayasimha78 for the compliments. Hope to see the changes across globe.

Happy that you liked it @AbhijeetUniyal. Thank you.

Your companionship is valuable dear @MathanVibranarayan. Thanks for your kind words.

You siad it all. Thanks for your valuable comments @ALG87.

Very well presented @Kumaarsantosh. I love your approach. Congratulations on the results you’re getting. I’m consistently receiving a few approvals on random days, but they’re not always for the most recent drawings. I checked through my Maps emails from the first 20 days of December, and my Edit dates range from September 5th to December 18th. There were 26 approval emails this month across 11 days, and 9 days with no notifications. Considering that I draw roads every day, those 9 days with no notifications leave me with a growing list of Pending Edits nearing the 90-day mark.

Great right up

The only drawback I see is there are some roads that are covered with houses on Google maps and they have little traffic. So when they are traced it rejects them because it cannot be verified as a real road. Any idea on how to resolve this?

Love this @Kumaarsantosh ji! :globe_showing_europe_africa: Mapping with a purpose makes every contribution meaningful.

Your Title is truly suitable for the great content you created…

Thank you @tony_b for your friendly appreciation and valuable remarks.

Some of my pending cases also stay stuck for a long time. A few get approved, but others are not accepted.
