Meet a Connect Moderator: Feliciana

Connect Moderators are Local Guides just like you and me. They apply the knowledge they’ve gained as active members of our community to moderate Connect and help improve the experience for everyone. You may see them welcoming newcomers, explaining the program, answering questions, and sharing their knowledge with others.

Each month, we share some personal insights from one of our amazing Connect Moderators. This month, meet Feliciana ( @Velvel ). Feliciana lives inJakarta, Indonesia, and speaks English, Bahasa Indonesia, and Mandarin.

Name: Feliciana

Location: Jakarta, Indonesia—the capital and largest city in Indonesia, which is so rich in diversity. In this city, you can find a lot of local and international foods.

What I love about being a Local Guide: I really love Google Maps’ vision to help people find places worth visiting, things worth doing, food worth eating. Since I strongly agree with this vision, by being a Local Guide, I could help people around the world through my contributions. [It’s a] mutual benefit as [I also] get help from other Local Guides’ contributions. I also love to connect and interact with Local Guides around the world by attending and hosting meet-ups.

Why I’m a Connect Moderator: I love to make Connect a friendly and [welcoming] forum for every Local Guide so that everyone here contributes their great stories, feels glad to read other Local Guides’ stories, and feels comfortable interacting with others without any boundaries. The language that is used the most on Connect is English, but it does not mean that if we are not familiar with English, we cannot interact with other Local Guides. Thanks to the translation widget by Google Translate, we can translate the articles into a language we are familiar with. Also, the existence of Google Moderators, Connect Moderators, and fellow Local Guides that speak languages besides English [helps] the interaction go pleasantly.

My favorite things to explore: Since I am a foodie, my number one [thing to explore] is definitely cuisine! Every place that is related to cuisine, such as a restaurant, cafe, bakery and pastry shop, bar, night market, street food vendor, supermarket [is] my favorite thing to explore. I love to eat, take pictures of food, then share my culinary experiences on Google Maps and Connect. Other things that I like to explore are shopping centers, cute stores (such as LINE Store, Disney Store, Toy Store), theme parks, historical buildings and places, and outdoor activities, like mountain climbing, spending time at the beach, and water sports.

My favorite type of contribution(s) to make on Google Maps: I like to write detailed reviews, share photos, and sometimes videos. Most of my contributions are to food [places]: restaurants, cafes, bakeries and pastry shops, coffee shops, and more. [I also] edit and update that place’s information.

Languages I read/speak/write fluently: English, Bahasa Indonesia, and Mandarin.

Places I’d like to visit: Europe. There are a lot of beautiful countries to visit on that continent, such as Austria, Czechia, France, Italy, Netherlands, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Turkey, Vatican City, and many others. I would also like to visit South Korea and Japan, especially to spend the winter and go to the snow festival in Hokkaido. Places I would like to revisit are Taiwan and the United States. I like both of them and would be very happy to explore more cities and spend more time there.

Fun fact about me: Here are two:

1. During a long flight, I find it hard to sleep while listening to music. However, when I play a movie, after a few minutes, you will find me sleeping soundly.
2. I love going to the supermarket, especially when I’m overseas. I could spend more than 30 minutes in a small store, exploring and shopping! That is only to shop for food products. Can you imagine how long it would take me if I went to a big supermarket?

The PRO TIPS for me is : you should find the information of the products that you would like to “hunt” from the internet, so in the supermarket or offline store, you could buy it directly.

Aku juga senang sekali bisa ketemu teteh tahun lalu di San Jose, sama-sama balik ke tanah air dan satu pesawat, sama-sama transit di Taipei kota favoritku (semoga kita bisa jalan-jalan bareng di sana ya suatu saat sekalian ketemu Dao Ming Si ), terus terhubung di Connect, dan terus berlanjut hingga saat ini.

Kalau tidur di bioskop sih lumayan sering hahaha… Tapi gak pernah sampai ketiduran hingga film selesai. Makanya, selalu ajak teman nonton biar kalau ketiduran ada yang bangunin

Hahaha… Always purchase the snack and food in light size, so that it won’t be hard to bring back home. And always make sure that the luggage(s) size isn’t oversize in the baggage. For the food or snack that could easily broken, it’s better to put it in the cabin.

Was intrigued to find out we have so many similarities when it comes to why we love being Connect Mods and our favorite types of contributions, @Velvel - I also love visiting supermarkets wherever I go to get a feel for the environment I’m in and discovering some local specialties .
