Hello LGs,
March 2025 is a month of lively celebrations—Gudi Padwa, Ugadi, Holi, and Ramadan with Eid al-Fitr—that bring joy and unity. It’s also a fantastic opportunity to support the little businesses that characterize our local areas. As Google Maps Local Guides, we can make a positive impact on local businesses and help them grow.
Let’s go all out again…Dil Se Local Challenge!!!
We have all been routinely assisting small or local businesses with various initiatives over the past few months, including meet-ups, posts, and updating their Google Maps presence. As a result, we need to take on a new challenge for March 2025 in order to promote different local businesses that will be the major attractions of the month.
Also, let’s catch up with some ideas or pointers I shared in my last post and make this month of March 2025 a memorable one for our community.
How Can We Help?
Share Their Stories
Spotlight local businesses by sharing their journeys on social media, writing reviews on Google Maps, or featuring them in blog posts. Highlight what makes them special—be it a family-run eatery, a handicraft store, or a festive pop-up shop. Few shops make striking window displays and sell a range of goods during the festival season. We can simply add that photo to the Updates section and caption it accordingly!
Organize Festive Meet-Ups
Host meetups to encourage people to explore and support local businesses. Ideas include:
- Holi Celebration at a Café: Enjoy colors and festive treats.
- Eid al-Fitr Dinner at a Local Restaurant: Celebrate over delicious traditional cuisine.
- Gudi Padwa & Ugadi Shopping Tour: Explore local markets for festive attire and home decor.
- A big sale bonanza at the saree emporium: A visit to an authentic, local, and famous saree shop having a big bonanza sale or famous for specific local-made handwoven saree or dres materials. Maharashtrian females can look for paithani as an example!
I am not suggesting you buy anything, but if you can, there is nothing better!
Create Engaging Content
Use your creativity to craft festival-themed shopping lists in Google Maps (with appropriate emojis if possible), feature local artisans, and highlight special events hosted by businesses.
Support Specific Festive Needs
Guide the community by promoting some of the main attractions during these festivals, such as:
-
Sweet shops: The main attraction of the entire community for festive delicacies.
-
Local textile stores: Many tend to gift dress materials, sarees.
-
Florists: Decorating homes with flowers, particularly during Gudi Padwa, Ugadi.
-
Gift stores: Gifting the dear ones with unique presents is a culture for many.
-
Vehicle & furniture dealers: Many buy electronic goods, vehicles, and properties during these auspecious occasions.
Encourage Community Participation
- Create a group of like-minded people and launch initiatives like organizing a fair in your locality or society.
- Post high-quality images of the goods you like from local businesses to your social media networks.
Update Google Maps Listings
Ensure small businesses have accurate details online. Suggest edits, add missing places, and answer FAQs to help shoppers find them easily.
Collaborate with Local Media
Amplify the message by working with newspapers, radio stations, or bloggers to spread awareness about supporting local businesses.
Why It Matters
Shopping locally boosts the economy, preserves culture, and supports artisans and family-run stores. This March, let’s make our celebrations more meaningful by uplifting local businesses and welcoming the summer!
How will you support small businesses this festive season? Share your plans!
Cheers!
