Hy Local Guides,

May is celebrated and viewed as Small Business Month with May 4-10th being Small Business Week. This month is specifically celebrated for the contributions done by small businesses to our economy and community.

Aim of this Month as a Local Guide🎯

  • Support Local Small Businesses by visiting them and giving them reviews :writing_hand:, storefront photos :house: and interior photos.
  • Familiarise them with features of Google Maps which can help their Business.
  • Inspire :sparkles: other Local Guides by sharing your stories in Connect on how you support small businesses.

What our Local Guides have been doing to Support Small Businesses on Google Maps? :sparkles:

I can see a long list of effective challenges & initiatives to support small businesses by Local Guides.

:shopping_bags: @AjitThite, who revived the initiative to Support Small Businesses has done various challenges with on-going called Dil Se Local which focus on to support small local businesses on festival months.

:recycling_symbol: @Kumaarsantosh, our voice of sustainability has started Support Small Businesses series. With support to help small businesses, he also takes up initiative to add Recycle bins to Google Maps, either inside a business or in a pathway.

:teapot: @TusharSuradkar, our Challenge Inspiration has an on-going challenge with 65 episodes called Chai Pe Charcha which supports Local Small Tea Shops. He is also an active participant of many challenges of Support Small Businesses and an inspiring local guide to start a challenge or initiative.

:cup_with_straw: @MathanVibranarayan, our Food & Drinks explorer has started his Beat the Heat Challenge to share experiences and stories of Fresh juices/drinks and foods to beat the heat of the summer and to Support Small Businesses.

:spoon: @KetanChhaniyara, our voice for Eco-friendliness has started his Ditch the Plastic Spoons Challenge where Participants would show shops they visited which use wooden or metal spoons instead of plastic. This in-turn supports small eco friendly businesses on Google Maps.

:girl: @Globe_trotter_Ish, our inspiring woman local guide who started her Let’s Empower Women Owned Businesses on Google Maps Initiative. Even though the challenge ended on April 30th, everyday is good to Support Small Women Owned Businesses. She also started Handmade Heritage Meetup series to support small businesses & Local Artisans and their Craftsmanship.

:girl: @FalguniP, our foodie & traveller and also an inspiring woman Local Guide has started her series called Making 10 Years Impactful where she supports small businesses as a meetup and posts.

:rainbow_flag: Me , started Support Local Small LGBTQ+ Friendly Businesses & Support Local ECO Friendly Businesses on Google Maps to support Accessible LGBTQ+ Friendly and Eco friendly Businesses.

I just found out about this support week, and I’m a bit late to the party since it’s already late May, but I’m glad I discovered it through your post.

Thanks for recognizing the challenges & initiatives Indian Local Guides have taken to support small businesses. :pray:
