Supporting Small Businesses: Sharbat Shop

Hello Friends,

I am back again with an intent to re-emphasize the way we Support Small Businesses as a Local Guide. It is our social and moral responsibility to support small businesses by all means and it becomes more useful when we do so through the use of Google Maps.

In my first post in this series of Supporting Small Businesses I have explained as what sort of small businesses we can support and how to support them. Later,

Chaat Golgappe stall, Paan shop, Momo shop/stall, Shoe repair shop and very recently Concept of Lakhpati SHG Didi under cottage and micro small business

have been considered to support.

What

and How

During my recent visit to the City of Joy, Kolkata, West Bengal, Bharat, while moving towards College Street, we stopped by a very old and famous Sharbat shop Kapila Ashram Rishi Babur Dokan, on my local friend’s recommendation. It is a very small shop at the corner of the road but at the quite prominent location.

This shop is running over a century year now and the third generation of owner’s family tree is taking care of this shop. The current owner is a young chap very down to earth. His focus is on serving the best quality of Sharbat from a variety of listed Sharbat in the menu. My friend was talking with him in Bengali and I was able to comprehend the discussion. I was quite impressed and I asked him only to recommend the best one for us and he suggested to go for Kesar Badam Malai Sharbat.[1] He prepared himself while we were talking and served us in a colourful plastic glass with a straw. The taste was amazing and none of the aerated drink can beat this.

They use plastic glasses and straws to serve Sharbat. However, they have well managed system to collect and dump the plastic glasses and straws for recycling. In that way they support the sustainability :recycling_symbol: for the environment.

There was no seating arrangement but since the service delivery was quick, we enjoyed standing and having our ordered Sharbat. Actually, seating was not needed for us.

On the spot, I shared some of the photos, answered the questions, edited Accessibility, Service options, Highlight, LGBTQ+ friendly, Payments and parking using the Edit features on Google Maps. Later, I posted my review based on the experience I had there.

Keep building a well-informed community stronger :muscle: together.

Stay Happy, Stay Healthy!

JAI HO!!!

The humble Sharbat shops are almost equivalent to a daily wage earner in an entrepreneurial setup. They need support more than any full-fledged fancy juice shop that sells exotic drinks.

Great post and photos showing support for yet another category of small businesses @Kumaarsantosh

I am loving this series and looking forward to which small business category you will highlight next :handshake:

The sharbat sounds delicious, and it’s great to know they’re also mindful of sustainability with their plastic waste. @Kumaarsantosh
Cheers to supporting local!

I am glad that it reached your way. Thank you @Rahul001 for affirming this.

And, I found such young entrepreneurs who carry their legacy from past generation are very much concious towards the nature and the environment.

Thank you @NareshDarji for noticing and appreciating it.
