Hy Local Guides, :shopping_bags:

As we wrap up for 2025, I wanted to take a moment to spotlight one of the most consistent and impactful missions on Connect - the drive to Support Small Local Businesses on Google Maps :sparkles:, by our local business champion : @AjitThite.

What makes @AjitThite’s mission unique is that it wasn’t just one campaign but a year long series of initiatives to support small local businesses from every angle.

What started as a passion for mapping hidden gems has turned into a massive movement to support local businesses, preserving heritage and fostering communities. From the busy lanes of Kumbhar Wada to the aroma of traditional Amruttulya tea :teapot: shops, it wasn’t just about adding places on Maps but about Dil se (from heart) connections which supports livelihood, celebrates culture and brings local guides together.

Inspiring and Sparkled Challenges/Initiatives :star:

@AjitThite kept the community engaged with diverse challenges throughout the year :

  • Dil Se Local :pink_heart: : From the “Big March” drive to “Diwali” specials, Ajit organised month-long challenges where local guides focused on supporting local businesses at special sectors like traditional artisans or flower sellers.
  • Review Hidden Gems :gem_stone: : A call to action to hunt for the reviewing places. The goal was simple but powerful: find a business that has existed for years but has no digital footprint and write a review and support them on Google Maps.
  • Festival Specials in Your Local Shops :diya_lamp:: An ongoing challenge encourages Local Guides to find shops selling seasonal items like Ganesha idols, Diwali lanterns or festive sweets which only appear for a few weeks. By mapping these, the community helped vendors maximize sales during their peak season.
  • Eco-Conscious Mapping - A Green Journey :shamrock:: A defining part of Ajit’s mission is linking sustainability with economic support. In this initiative, he encourages local guides to map street markets, repair shops and small businesses that use biodegradable materials. By highlighting these “Green” local businesses, he drives customers to vendors who care for the planet.

Meet-ups that supports local businesses :busts_in_silhouette:

@AjitThite also took the challenge offline with real world meetups.

Leading with Purpose :sparkles:

@AjitThite not only support local businesses but inspires the community to join in for the purpose :

This initiative, Support Local Businesses has sparked a ripple effect! A huge shoutout to all the Local Guides around the globe who stepped out to support their local businesses on Google Maps this year.

Thank you very much, @rahul001, for this thoughtful and generous write-up. Reading this felt really personal and grounded.

“Dil Se Local” was not intended to be a challenge. It resulted from noticing, exploring around, and opting for care. It became a movement and a regular practice as many Local Guides believed that small businesses deserved recognition, respect, and genuine support.

I’m grateful to every guide that reviewed a hidden business, tracked a seasonal vendor, went on a market stroll, or simply stopped to chat with a local seller. That is where the true impact lies.

Thank you again, Rahul, for capturing the essence of our voyage so well. Let us continue to support local businesses with purpose and from the heart in 2026 and beyond.

With this, I’d like to thank the many LGs, like @TusharSuradkar, @ShubhamWaman, and @NERKARAMIT, for being there with me regularly for meet-ups; @KetanChhaniyara for adding more sustainability with the “no plastic” campaign; and you, @Rahul001, for regularly contributing through inclusivity and generously participating and taking it to the next level with their own challenges and contributions. (There are many more LGs; I apologize for not including their names here to keep this a short note rather than a post.:+1:)

Cheers!

Thank you @rahul001 and @AjitThite for the wonderful spotlight on “Dil Se Local”! It’s inspiring to see how this heartfelt initiative has connected so many Local Guides in supporting small businesses across India.

I’ve been mapping local gems like street vendors and family-run shops in Gujarat markets, adding reviews to help them thrive digitally.

Let’s keep the momentum going into 2026 - more walks, more hidden spots, dil se! :shopping_bags::sparkles:
