Recap on Nigeria, India and Francophone spotlight weeks #CommunitySpotlight2025

Another two weeks have passed since the last recap post and it’s time for another recap of the ongoing Community Spotlight! FYI, Community Spotlight is taking place across November and December, where each week will see a different community (or two) take to the stage to showcase themselves! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

In week three, we had the delight of welcoming Team Nigeria :nigeria: to the spotlight! We had food, culture, Afrobeats :musical_note::long_drum:… we had coolness personified! I was fortunate to be awake and well enough to attend their virtual meet-up and got to display my ignorance by asking, “How do you define Afrobeat?”, and you can watch the video below for the answer! Here are all the posts from Team Nigeria! :sun:

And in week four, in case I wasn’t already up to my neck with so much to do, we got the pleasure of having two communities, Team India :india: and Team Francophone :fleur_de_lis:! Needless to say, it was a very busy week with so many wonderful posts to discover! Both teams really brought their A-game, and you can see the close collaboration that their members had with each other through the sharing of photos and experiences and co-writing the posts! Check out their masterpieces! :crown:

Side note: “Francophone” refers to people or things that are French-speaking, while “Francophonie” refers to the entire French-speaking world or the institution that promotes French language and culture!

It’s been quite the two weeks and I have been constantly amazed by all the passion and commitment the various Local Guides have put into their spotlight week. Seeing everyone come together has been an immense joy for me and I would also like to take this opportunity to give a huge THANK YOU to the Point of Contact for these two weeks; @ChinonsoOnukwugha (Team Nigeria), @curatorofmemory (Team India) and @cuicani (Team Francophone). These folks help take the lead within their respective communities and, through their leadership, have given us such astounding results!

We are now heading into the final chapter of the spotlight. This week, the community torch :fire: is passed on to Team Indonesia :indonesia: and Team Mexico :mexico:. Please do check out their introduction posts, which should also guide you to upcoming posts throughout this week!

This week is also really international because Team Indonesia will mainly be posting in Bahasa Indonesia while Team Mexico will be posting in Spanish! Please don’t let the language difference be a barrier as Connect has a really nifty translation tool! Also, if you do come across any issues with translation, feel free to tag me (or any of the Connect Moderators) for assistance!

The Local Guides program is a global program and we want Connect to reflect that as well, through the use of our own native languages and the sharing of our cultures and customs.

By the way, Team Google :sparkles: will be having their spotlight in Week 51 (15-21 Dec) instead of Week 50 to fill in the gap between Team Argentina :argentina: and the Big Year End party! If you haven’t already done so, please check out the details of the party and RSVP if you’re attending! I also plan to record/live stream the party! :tada:

Last but not least, please support each other during this Community Spotlight! It is a great opportunity to learn about the different communities, get to know each, form new friendships and strengthen old ones! And ultimately, just have fun!

Thanks very much @Maximilianozalazar @GasparKaren @curatorofmemory @Laurent @TravelClever !! Sorry for the slow reply.. we had Team India :india: and Team Francophone :fleur_de_lis: , followed by Team Indonesia :indonesia: and Team Mexico :mexico: , and in those two weeks, they were sooooo many posts to read and respond to!

@PrasadVR .. Team Google :sparkles: have been telling me that their week is going to be super simple and won’t match what the other communities are doing! Regardless, I’m still very pleased that they asked if they could participate as well and I, like you, are looking forward to seeing what their spotlight week will be. Until then, we have the excellent Team Argentina :argentina: keeping us busy this week!
