A warm welcome to the 4th week of #CommunitySpotlight2025, an initiative led by Connect Moderator @AdrianLunsong as part of the community-driven year-long celebration #10YearsOfLocalGuides. This week, we are celebrating #IndiaCommunitySpotlight2025, coordinated by @curatorofmemory, and this post is a part of that celebration under the umbrella of #TeamIndia.

Celebrating Connection, Collaboration, and Contribution:
The Indian community is vast and rich in diverse languages, landscapes, food preferences, and cultures. Reflecting this diversity, the India Local Guides Community has always been rooted in connection, collaboration, and collective learning. This spirit has been alive since the very beginning of Local Guides Connect — and in many ways, even earlier. The community has organized more than 100 meetups. Over the years, our community has continued to grow stronger through active interactions, celebrations, shared learning, and a collective sense of purpose.

From WhatsApp Groups to an Official Channel
India’s Local Guides community has grown through strong mentorship and connection since 2017, when Connect Moderator Naresh Darji created the first national WhatsApp group and encouraged the formation of regional groups that were later nurtured by contributors like TravellerG and Connect Moderator Tushar. These groups—along with active state communities—have long supported Local Guides in learning, collaborating, and improving their contributions. Building on this foundation, a major recent development is the launch of an official Local Guides WhatsApp channel for India, managed by Googler @Latika_Malhotra, which has quickly gained popularity and strengthened communication across the country. Many Local Guides have shared their experiences on Connect, expressing their happiness about this official channel.

Community Voices: Testimonials of Collaboration
The India Local Guides Community thrives on mutual support, learning, and togetherness—beautifully reflected in the heartfelt testimonials shared by members on Connect. From Ajit Thite’s inspiring return after surgery to Supriya Devkar’s appreciation for his kindness, dedication, and support for small businesses, each voice highlights the community’s spirit of care. Mohita expresses gratitude for Local Guides from across India—including Siddharth, Manish, Sonam, Enkay, Vipin ji, Krishna ji, Shruti, Rosy ma’am, Naresh Darji, Ketan Chhaniyara, and many others—who guided her like family. Siddharth’s acknowledgements further showcase this culture of mentorship, appreciating Ajit Dada, K.K. Sharma, TravellerG, Kumar Santosh, Vipin ji, Manish, Sonam, Enkay, Hemendu ji, Shreya, and Tushar for their constant encouragement and friendship. Messages from Ruchee, who credits Tushar Suradkar for patient guidance, and Enkay Tripathi, who thanks Manish Kumar for motivating newcomers and supporting Delhi LGs, further affirm how consistently Local Guides uplift one another with patience, motivation, and shared passion.
Together, these experiences highlight how collaboration, compassion, and collective learning continue to strengthen the India Local Guides Community. You can read the detailed testimonials shared by these members in the first comment of this post.

Champions from Indian Community
The India Local Guides Community takes great pride in its contributors who have earned global recognition. Among the 21 Meet-up Champions, four are from India — @NareshDarji, @TravellerG, @Globe_trotter_Ish, and @FalguniP. In the Road Mapping Champions list, 2 of the 5 global champions (40%) — @PrasadVR and @SarathUpendran — also belong to our community. We further shine in the Accessibility Champions category, with 10 of 50 champions (20%) coming from India, including @Kumaarsantosh, @NareshDarji, @TusharSuradkar, @Rahul001, @Dr_AlwyPaul, @KalyanPal, @AnshukMitra, @PritishB, @Tejal, and @Globe_trotter_Ish. Some of us are also Top Movers & Shakers Leaderboards Champion. Additionally out of 33 global recipients of the Championing Women@LocalGuides badge, 25 (76%) are from India, including 15 male allies, highlighting the community’s strong commitment to women’s empowerment and gender equality. Together, these achievements reflect the spirit of excellence and collaboration that defines the India Local Guides Community.
Indian Local Guides in Worldwide Activities
The Indian community actively participates in global initiatives on Connect. For example, when Googler @Kristen_NYC launched the #LG10ScavengerHunt meet-up proposal, the first global meet-up in this series was hosted by me in Delhi. Additionally, Indian community members have consistently been present at virtually all global meet-ups hosted outside India. Whether it is the TRAC initiative by Connect Moderator Shola, Top 100 Local Guides leaderboard initiatives by Connect Moderator @AdamGT, or the #LocalGuidesCleanTheWorld initiative by Connect Moderator @ErmesT, our community has made a strong and visible contribution.
