Good day local guides, my name is Ayua Silas Denen, and I am known on connect as @silooobaba. I am a level 7 Google Local Guide based in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria. It is my pleasure to introduce you to the Nigeria Local Guides community a platform where we share knowledge, connect with one another, and contribute to making our cities more accessible and welcoming to all. Together, we can inspire positive change and showcase the beauty of Nigeria and her cities to the world.
Nigerian Local Guides is a dynamic and vibrant community of volunteer contributors committed to showcasing and promoting Nigeria’s tourism industry and unique cultural and natural attractions to the world through Google Maps. With a growing membership of over 1,000 individuals that cut across all the 36 State and the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, our mission is to improve access to reliable information, support local businesses, and enhance the overall digital visibility of Nigeria as a thriving destination for the citizen and visitors.
Our members, ranging from experienced contributors like @EmekaUlor, @MrLabule - level 10, @sholaIB, @Gamboda Leo Dauda, Level 8, @ifeanyikoh level 8, @Elesdee level 8, @Zinta level 7, @johnybiz07 leve@saheed 7, @Teesool level 7, and @saheed level 6 etc. To enthusiastic newcomers, play a vital role in documenting the historical landmarks, cultural festivals, and traditional practices, helping tourists appreciate Nigeria’s rich heritage. Through reviews, photos, videos, and map edits, we collectively provide authentic, up-to-date information that helps residents, visitors, and businesses navigate and experience the country more meaningfully.
Beyond digital contributions, Nigerian Local Guides has successfully organized impactful online and offline activities that foster both learning and community engagement. These include maps editing meet-ups, photowalks to capture and highlight local businesses, accessibility-focused initiatives to improve navigation for persons with disabilities, thematic meet-ups such as the “Chocolate Tour & Taste,” food crawls, and guided hikes to update trail information. Each activity is designed to merge exploration with social impact, reinforcing the community spirit that defines our community.
We take pride in the measurable difference our members have made—empowering small businesses to gain visibility, enhancing accessibility features across public spaces, and inspiring others to join the Local Guides community. Collectively, our community has contributed hundreds of thousands of reviews, photos, and edits, making Nigeria more discoverable and inclusive on a global scale. However, the challenge remains inadequate quality Modern devices such as mobile phones or 360 cameras used for taking quality pictures, infrastructure and Planning Issues, Nigeria’s cities often struggle with inadequate infrastructure, which can impact the quality of tourist experiences. Safety and Security Concerns, Guides may need to address safety concerns and ensure tourists have a secure experience while exploring the cities.
After every event, we usually filter the pictures to be posted online and most pictures don’t make it online because they lack the needed quality.
It would be remiss of me not to acknowledge the following personalities, who consistently go above and beyond whenever they are in the city to host or join our meet-ups. Their experience and presence always leave a positive impact on the community. Special thanks to @EmekaUlor @EmekaUlor whose contributions to the community are numerous; @sholaIB, connect moderator who always host meet-ups, such as Jabi lake mall photo walk 2, whenever he is in the country; @sagir, and @ chinonsoOnukwugha who always share her wealth of experiences with us and the host of others who continue to support and uplift our gatherings.
Nigerian Google Local Guides, our passion is our greatest achievement. Together, we are not just putting Nigeria on the map—we are building bridges, telling stories, and shaping how the world experiences our cities.
