My Google Maps Story - Sustainability, Accessibility & Inclusivity ✨

Hy Local Guides, :wheelchair_symbol::recycling_symbol::rainbow_flag:

It’s incredible to know how much Google Maps has evolved over two decades & has been an important tool for navigation & exploring. What better way to celebrate 10 years of Local Guides & 20 years of Google Maps & Connect’s 9th birthday :sparkles: on this World Emoji Day :partying_face: than sharing my journey as a Local Guide. As part of Pride with Local Guides, I am glad to participate in @TusharSuradkar’s MyGoogleMapsStory & @NareshDarji’s GoogleMapsTurns20.

My journey as a local guide is driven by commitment to Sustainability :recycling_symbol:, Accessibility :wheelchair_symbol::person_with_white_cane: & Inclusivity :glowing_star:. Here’s how I contribute towards each which in turn makes the world more navigable.

Sustainability :recycling_symbol:

I have focused sustainability by adding ECO Friendly options from businesses to EV charging stations. Either by adding a photo or through review, I try to include sustainability choices of the businesses which I visit. Sustainability options outside of businesses I added various from Smart bins & toilets, EV charging stations, Waste bins etc.. By highlighting these sustainable options :recycling_symbol:, we can put out awareness about environmental responsibility towards the users on Google Maps.

Special mention :

Accessibility :wheelchair_symbol::person_with_white_cane:

As the :five::zero:th Accessibility Champion, I have committed to provide Accessibility information to Google Maps. Through photos & reviews, I always count for accessibility contributions about wheelchair accessible entrance & restrooms, tactile pavings, braille boards etc.. Our Accessibility contributions help individuals who need Accessibilities (wheelchair, visual, auditory and cognitive) to navigate & explore. I also tend to extend my contribution to Accessible LGBTQ+ friendly business by Supporting Local LGBTQ+ :rainbow_flag: friendly businesses on Google Maps.

Inclusivity :glowing_star:

I always believe in Inclusive contribution :glowing_star: & involvement in the Connect Community. My inclusive contributions include Gender Neutral bathrooms, inclusive welcome signs, parking spaces etc.. Every contribution on Google Maps tells an informative story & I put forward to make those stories inclusive for everyone.

Happy World Emoji Day :partying_face: to all my fellow local guides. Share your festive celebration emoji with Emoji kitchen to celebrate GoogleMapsTurns20 & Connect’s 9th birthday.
