Noting Sustainability Features at Detroit Metro Airport

In June 2025, I visited Detroit. This was my 3rd visit to the Motor City, though previously I wasn’t aware of concepts of sustainability.

Thanks to the dedicated efforts by the pioneers @Kumaarsantosh and Dr. @K.K.Sharma, this tag was added to Connect.

Since then, I could not help but notice the sustainability features that were scattered all over.

The top feature that I noticed was the saving in plastic bottles used for water by using the bottle refilled facility. This was free and available outside all restrooms at the airport.

:recycling_symbol: Trash cans like these were placed everywhere.
These had separate compartments for various types of waste, and each was neatly labeled and illustrated with sample pictures, making it easy to dispose of the trash.

:wheelchair_symbol: Inclusivity features like family restrooms with wheelchair accessibility were also seen.

Finally, I also noticed that the vending machine for food had trays made of recyclable and eco-friendly cardboard.

This post is also in response to the Celebrate International Plastic Free Day, by @Rahul001
