🎉 Celebrating the Launch of the ‘Sustainability’ Tag by Adding a ♻️ Plastic Bottle Recycling Drop-off Location

:herb: Thank You for the ‘Sustainability’ Tag! :herb:

I’m excited to share that the much-needed Sustainability tag is now available on Connect! Heartfelt thanks to the Google Moderators for introducing this valuable addition. :green_heart: This new tag is a great step forward in helping us Local Guides share and discover impactful contributions that support a better, greener planet. :globe_showing_europe_africa::recycling_symbol:

:round_pushpin: Mapping a Step Towards a Greener Future

Today, I had the opportunity to contribute under this new tag by sharing a Plastic Bottle Recycling Drop-off Location : plastic bottle crushing machine (Reverse Vending Machine, RVM) installed at Agra Cantt Railway Station. It’s a small yet powerful initiative promoting eco-friendly habits among travelers. :station::sparkles:

Normally in India, when we travel by train, we often buy packed water bottles costing ₹15. After drinking the water, many people tend to throw the bottle away. Instead, it’s much better to drop it into a crushing machine, which is exactly why such machines are being installed at railway stations — to encourage responsible disposal and recycling. :recycling_symbol:

To make it even more helpful, I’ve also added the location of the machine on Google Maps, so that anyone visiting can easily find and use it.

:round_pushpin:The day before yesterday, I also added a Plastic Bottle Crushing Machine located at Hatiya Railway Station, and its Maps location is here.

:seedling: Relevant Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

:counterclockwise_arrows_button: SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

Promotes sustainable consumption by reducing plastic waste and encouraging recycling through accessible disposal options.

:globe_showing_europe_africa: SDG 13: Climate Action

By reducing plastic pollution and encouraging recycling, you’re helping lower greenhouse gas emissions associated with plastic production and waste incineration.

:station: SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

Supporting cleaner public spaces and promoting eco-friendly behavior in transit hubs makes urban areas more sustainable and livable.

:ocean: SDG 14: Life Below Water

Plastic waste is a major threat to marine ecosystems. Recycling efforts help reduce the amount of plastic that could otherwise reach water bodies.

:family_man_woman_girl: SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals

By collaborating with platforms like Google Maps and engaging fellow Local Guides, we’re building community-based partnerships for sustainability.

Already added one? Awesome! Do share your story and inspire more Local Guides to contribute to a greener future. :globe_showing_europe_africa::sparkles:

This is wonderful news, Dr. @K.K.Sharma
Congratulations:tada::partying_face:

I can remember of ‘Bhagirath’ who brought Ganga to the earth, with consistent efforts.

Now it has become easy to write posts about Sustainability using the new tag, and no need to scramble to adjust the post in some irrelevant tag.

Thank you so much :handshake::+1:

I will try to write detailed posts following your guidelines.
Till then, here my response.

@K.K.Sharma ji Exciting news about the new Sustainability tag on Connect! :tada: Love that you’re already putting it to great use by mapping those plastic bottle recycling machines at Agra Cantt and Hatiya Railway Stations. It’s awesome how these help promote eco-friendly habits!

Yes, @Gouri.PS, you are right. After seeing the bottle crushing machine in a post by @Trishatishu, it’s clear that the machines there are still quite advanced. In our country, most of them are just basic crushing machines. Thank you for reading my post!

There is a machine to crush plastic bottles but the good thing is that this machine is helpful in reducing the pollution & garbage of empty plastic water bottles. @K.K.Sharma :person_shrugging:
