Celebrate World Toilet Day with Me 🚻✨

Hy Local Guides, :restroom::water_closet:

Today is celebrated as World Toilet Day (November 19th). This day is designated by the United Nations to raise & promote awareness on public toilets and sanitation for billions of people around us.

@Roopesh contributed towards accessible gender neutral toilet :restroom::wheelchair_symbol: at Take a Break, a public bathroom in Kozhikode.

As a local guide, our simple contributions from adding accessible :wheelchair_symbol: toilets to eco-friendly :recycling_symbol: toilets on Google Maps contribute towards public health, accessibility and a cleaner world. When a user can find a safe and accessible toilet on Google Maps, that’s the real impact of our contribution.

Let’s celebrate this toilet day by looking back at inspiring and incredible contributions and stories by our community around the public toilets & sanitation.

Community in Action :glowing_star:

Our commitment to mapping the world has extended to this vital topic. We had many amazing and inspiring stories highlighting sanitations and accessibility.

Spotlighting public sanitation inspires our community to contribute valuable and accessible toilets on Google Maps, just like how @NituGogoi shares about efforts provided for women by spotting and mapping Pink Toilets.

@Shaunak also shared about the real-time benefit of the contribution on places offering Free Public Toilets which highlights the impact on mapping free public accessible toilets.

To celebrate Connect’s 8th birthday celebration :tada:, @shaileno visited the Museum of Toilet :classical_building: which gave importance and promoted the awareness of sanitation.

We support local inclusive businesses on Google Maps, as @Gouri.PS included her experience and note on having a gender neutral toilet :restroom: during her visit to a local chai shop.

Local Guides helps by contributing and updating Gender Neutral Toilets attributes and verifying its presence which turns Google Maps into a reliable source for a safe and welcoming platform.

Check out how @Kumaarsantosh has helped in How to edit Gender Neutral bathroom/toilet attributes on Google Maps.

Do you add any public accessible toilets or include toilets in your review during your visit to a local cafe on Google Maps? Share your stories & experiences on how you support & promote sanitation on Google Maps.

Great reminder about World Toilet Day @Rahul001 :+1:
I remember a few meetups hosted by me around this topic in the past.

:restroom: Public Toilets in Gurugram - Meetup.

:restroom: Public Toilets in Delhi - Meetup.

:restroom: :wheelchair_symbol: Public Toilets in Pune - Meetup.

:restroom: :wheelchair_symbol: Accessible Toilets in Pune - Meetup.

And here’s a recent photo of a mobile toilet meant exclusively for women that is installed at 16 locations in Pune. These pink toilets are made from repurposed city buses.

I captured this outside the ShaniwarWada monument during the meetup in Pune last week:

It seems there’s a day for everything @Gouri.PS, so I’m not surprised although I didn’t know either.

Questions about gender neutral toilets have been popping up in my daily list of questions, but I’d never heard of them before @Rahul001. Is that the third person next to the male and female in your photo above?

Wonderful post on World Toilet Day @Rahul001
I always try to include accessible toilets during my reviews and am on the lookout for wheelchair accessible washrooms in the places I visit

That’s a good question @tony_b . It’s not male and female but it can be any gender or a mix of it.

Thanks @Rahul001. I guess times have changed. There was once a legal requirement to provide separate toilets for the genders in large business places, or in public places. Now this change looks like we’d be putting them back together, (if the law allows).

Your suggestion could also be correct @Anil6969, but the gender-neutral question didn’t directly say that, so I didn’t think that was the real focus at this point.
