[RECAP] Accessible Gurugram - Episode 07, Public Toilets

Ever since the lockdown has ended, Gurugram is opening up in phases and people are increasingly visiting various places and are in need of public toilets.

In Gurugram there are several good-quality toilets in every neighborhood.

Various public toilets in Gurugram were visited and the following was checked:

  1. Accessibility of the main entrance.
  2. Availability of ramps at the entrance.
  3. Accessibility of the men and women sections of the toilets.

The following Toilets were visited and checked for accessibility :wheelchair:

  1. Public Toilet - Opposite Mini Secretariat

Here is a brief summary of the accessibility check.

1. Public Toilet - Opposite Mini Secretariat :wheelchair: :heavy_check_mark:

There was a proper entrance with a ramp and both men and women toilets had special arrangements for the differently-abled like a handrail

The separate washroom/toilet labeled दिव्यांग or Divyang means the differently-abled.

2. Public Toilet - Opposite Vikas Sadan :wheelchair: :heavy_check_mark:

There was a proper entrance with a ramp and both men and women toilets had special arrangements for the differently-abled like a handrail

The separate washroom/toilet labeled दिव्यांग or Divyang means the differently-abled.

3. & 4. Public Toilets - Opposite District Court and Tehsil Office :wheelchair: :heavy_check_mark:

There was a proper entrance with a ramp and both men and women toilets had special arrangements for the differently-abled like a handrail

The separate washroom/toilet labeled दिव्यांग or Divyang means the differently-abled.

5. Public Toilets in sector 10A :wheelchair: :x:

This toilet had a ramp which is could be doubted to be of any practical use.

Inside the toilet, there was no special section or any arrangement for the differently-abled.

Hello @TusharSuradkar

This is commendable sir. Thank you for sharing. Accessibility features are very poor in w.Africa really. Looking out for them now than ever. Will endeavour to post something sometime about them if I ever get a commendable organisation or area that has them.

Were they other attendants on your meet up?

Cheers

Thank you for your encouragement my friend

Much appreciated.

No one attended this meetup due to social distancing in the pandemic period.

This was a solo meetup @SholaIB

Wish you the best for your initiative in Africa.

I will look out for the meetup and the article.

Wow a solo meetup I like that. That’s very good kudos to you :+1:t4: . I’ll like to organize a meetup sometime soon too and with this am not worried if anyone will attend or not. I can have a solo meetup too  . Thanks for replying.

Cheers

Hi @SholaIB

Google supports solo meetups especially in these days of COVID pandemic when social distancing is required and even in the pre-COVID days as long as the purpose is met.

As you said make sure you have enough places to cover for the topic of the meetup and you can even host it as a virtual meetup where people can see you on the site via video conferencing, though I have not done this as yet. This is because the places I visited were far off from each other and I did not want people attending online to wait till I travel from one place to another. Alternatively, you can have a buddy or co-host who can manage the online hosting while you are on site. I am going to try this in the next meetup.

Let me know your thoughts and ideas a well.

Thanks. That’s exactly what I was thinking about.

Having a co-host to manage the on-line things etc as you said and I on the grounds doing the walk. I had a little meetup New Google meetup feature trial/recap!!! With Mukul on Saturday about this. So many things you on connect I don’t know :hugs: . I am planning a virtual walk of the big mall and it’s environment here in Accra. Hardly know where to start really but will start somewhere as soon as I am free. Nice chat :+1:t4:

That is nothing new - the Google Meet app was always available on the play store.

That post says it is accessible via GMail now - that’s it.

We can do a joint meetup about accessibility if you’d like - we have a couple of more guys who will manage online stuff while one of us is on site.

My next meetup is approved for Shopping Mall Accessibility checkup on 25th Aug i.e. tomorrow.

It is not virtual but we can do this virtual as well if you are willing to participate online.

@PritishB will also join us online via Google Meet, would that be possible Pritish?

Next time, you go on the site, we will support you online.

I’ve been following your meet-up initiative for almost 2 months now and I’m really impressed with how much you’ve helped improving the map in Gurugram. Not to mention that some of the spots you’ve focused on this far are places that people use all the time in their day to day lives such as bus stops, banks, parks and hospitals. Your dedication truly is an inspiration to us all, @TusharSuradkar . Thank you for sharing the recap as well as your journey with the community. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi @SholaIB

This was not supposed to be a virtual meetup, so no link was generated.

Thank you for the words of appreciation @KlaudiyaG helps me keep going.

These places are spread out far-and-wide in the community, each having different criteria thereby posing a different set of challenges when assessing accessibility. It was fun beating these challenges
