Inspiring Sustainable Initiatives

- Menstrual Sustainability

@SonamW has started an amazing initiative: From Copenhagen to India: A Journey in Menstrual Sustainability where sharing about menstrual sustainable products like plant based pads, biodegradable pads, reusable menstrual cups etc. which have less or no plastic wastes compared to other products.

- Mapping for Green

@ErmesT has started a sustainable initiative with Mapping For Green April Challenge : #LocalGuidesCleanTheWorld which leads local guides to update Google Maps with sustainable information, such as recyclable vending machines, biodegradable waste bins etc..
- Sustainable Development Goals
& Reviews
@SharmaK showed us how to contribute towards 17 sustainable goals on Google Maps. He also inspired us on how to add sustainability to our review through Let’s talk about Reviews : Planet Friendly Reviews. Keep an eye for the upcoming SDG meetup in November : The Role of Local Guides in Achieving the SDGs.
- Tree Plantation Meetup

@Globe_trotter_Ish has organised an amazing and effective Tree plantation - 9th birthday celebrations meetup where she contributed 20 saplings which represents 20 years of Google Maps.
- Pune Tree Plantation

@AjitThite hosted Pune Tree Plantation Meetup where he and 13 local guides collectively focusing on tree planting while checking and monitoring survival of trees planted during last year’s meetup - a true comment to long term sustainability.

Adding Sustainable Contributions on Google Maps
As a local guide, we have our contributions to help others by choosing eco-friendly options. @Kumaarsantosh has helped in How to edit Sustainable attributes on Google Maps which makes it easier for users to find eco-friendly businesses.
Let’s see how to make sustainable contributions:
- Adding media
- You can take photos or videos of sustainable choices provided by the businesses or place such as waste bins, biodegradable products, using renewable energy for charging etc and upload them to Google Maps with captions. - Writing sustainable reviews
- You can mention whether a place or business uses reusable products, having an electric charging point or foods they collect are from locally sourced in your reviews.
Beyond today, let’s recognise other sustainable days like Energy Conservation Day, International E Waste Day and International Plastic Free Day to promote greener community.
