I’m taking advantage of this fantastic opportunity for a month-long challenge: Mapping For Green. A 30 days challenge for making Google Maps more green
Let’s make our points green with our activities in Google Maps
Let’s tell it together during the meet-up on April 25th (in preparation)
A place a day for 30 days
This is the first option, which we can do individually: Contribute in a Green way for 30 days. The ideal would be to contribute with one place per day, but since this could be difficult for many, 30 contributions in 30 days will be considered valid.
Green meet-ups
Organize one or more meet-ups to contribute together. This way it will be much more fun, and the most experienced Local Guides will be able to help and educate others.
By adding a Recycling drop-off Location in Google Maps
By adding reviews and [no more than 4] photos to the Recycling drop-off Location added by you in Google Maps
By adding photos and reviews to an existing Recycling drop-off Location in Google Maps
Adding or updating a review of a business where there is a collection point (e.g. plastic bottles, plastic, batteries, expired medicines, broken small appliances)
Adding up to 4 photos of a business where there is a collection point (e.g. plastic bottles, plastic, batteries, expired medicines, broken small appliances). The photos must show the collection point
Do you have any doubts?
Feel free to ask in a comment on this topic.

I also updated the opening time of 5 Recycling drop-off Location (25 points) = 76 points
I’m excited to participate in this challenge! Today, I submitted a meetup scheduled for the 22nd, and starting tomorrow, I will begin searching for recycling locations.
I love your idea @ErmesT but 1 contribution a day will be too much for me. I am thinking about a virtual meet up or publishing post regarding Mapping for Green. Let me explore the places first
Hehe, @Erna_LaBeau , That’s why it is a challenge.
But it can be 30 contributions in a months, not necessarily one contribution every single day, and I am sure there is a lot of Green to map near you
Oohh more gamification!! I thought I had enough with @SholaIB’s TRAC but I’m very tempted to work on my green points. I will have to see if there’s anything about recycling to add near me, or maybe try to edit other sustainable features
This is a great challenge Ermes. Something that helps the earth. I love it. I am going to join and try and find a few places.
I am lucky to live in a great province in a great Country where everyone including all the local regional councils are behind this.
Tomorrow is my weekly recycling day. I can put out in approved containers Cans, bottles, paper, cardboard, even food scraps and leftovers, at the end of the driveway and the recycle truck run by the local region will pick it up.
But I am determined to find some places and add photos to POIs.
Today I was at the home Improvement store and found this drop off for batteries. I will add this photo to the POI.
Great initiative, thanks for sharing @ErmesT I will surely be on the lookout for these places which can recycle and try to conduct a couple of meetups this month
Well done, @TerryPG
I hope that one day (possibly soon) Google Maps will want to take a step towards Green
There’s an old idea (now no longer accessible in Connect) that I’d like to revisit.
I’ll show you a preview. What do you think?
No, Ermes. Those are regular garbage bins at the entrance of an area that’s inaccessible to the garbage trucks. (I’m seeing a steep, narrow, bumpy road when I move the photo around). This is possibly serving a number of residents through that adjacent road, or a number of rental units in an apartment building behind those bushes.
Can you send me a link to the accurate coordinates? I’m unable to see any road names or discern exactly where this is, and you’ve stirred up my curiosity.
Love The video @ErmesT This would be a very large project to do worldwide especially with so much garbage in the world. Maybe they could do a small test run in a few places. But I do love the idea.
Watching the video hit home for me earlier in the day. I live in the country just outside of town and was driving to the supermarket today and I noticed 2 very large containers of trash dumped on the side of the road. Around the corner there were 2 local municipal workers picking up garbage from the side of the road. I stopped and talked to them and mentioned the large containers I had seen, they were aware of them and said they were going to remove them at the end of the day. They also mentioned the garbage thrown on the side of roads is increasing every day. Such a shame.
Diese Müllcontainer stehen an geeigneter Stelle vor unserem Strand und Bilder samt Erläuterung zeigen wie lange es dauert bis sich beispielsweise Plastik zersetzt.
