Celebrate No Disposable Cup Day with Me - Challenge : #NoDisposableCups ☕♻️

Hy Local Guides, :hot_beverage:

Today is No Disposable Cup Day (October 4th)! This sustainable day :recycling_symbol: is celebrated to promote reusable alternatives and draw attention to the causes produced by single use cups on the environment.

Millions of single use cups (both plastic & plastic lined paper cups) end up in landfills or as a polluter. Let’s make this day & whole month a challenge to make sustainable :recycling_symbol: choices in our daily life.

This day is to remind us of a small change in our daily life to make a difference for our planet for a sustainable cause. As a local guide :sparkles:, we are positioned to promote sustainability in our community and on Google Maps.

How can we participate in this challenge? :bullseye:

  1. Supporting Sustainable Local businesses -

    • Visit your local cafe, coffee shop, restaurant or a street vendor that has reusable cups like ceramics, steel or any eco friendly :recycling_symbol: products.
    • Take a photo :selfie: of that reusable cup and upload on Google Maps with necessary tags.
    • Write or mention about their reusable cups in your review :writing_hand:.
  2. Sharing your story or experience -

    • You can share your story/experience of having to use reusable cups of the local business you visited in the comment or as a post.
    • Include any unique reusable cups you came across in any local businesses. For example, like recycled coffee beans cups which are reusable.
    • Include the tag #NoDisposableCups :hash: in your post.

Duration of the challenge! :spiral_calendar:

Challenge starts today (October 4th) and ends on November 4th, 2025.

Criteria of the Challenge! :exclamation_question_mark:

  • Reusable cups you spotlight to the community should be reusable by the local businesses.
  • Even though paper cups can be reusable by us, it’s not done by local businesses & so kindly avoid it.
  • A review link :link: should be inserted in your challenge participation post/comment and that should mention reusable cups.
  • A photo :framed_picture: of the reusable cup should be added to the challenge participation post/comment.

I understand the theme - supporting small local businesses that do not use disposable cups.

I will participate soon.
Until then, here is my photo of a great start to a lazy weekend, sipping Indonesian coffee, in a steel mug with laser engraving shared generously by @TravellerG :hot_beverage:

Great initiative! @Rahul001 This challenge is a powerful step toward sustainability. And one of my favourite topics, I will participate Soon. :hot_beverage:

@Rahul001 nice challenge, I like the initiative.

In my opinion, if cups are washed properly without wasting too much water, that’s a great option, otherwise, disposables often make more sense for hygiene  of course less for the environment unfortunately. However, there is not always enough time and resources to wash cups properly in many business setup.

Imagine if everyone carried their own cup… all solved in one go! The mega meetup 20/09/2025 gift could totally be the roaming cup :heart_hands:

win-win: we personally wash responsibly, and businesses have less to manage (and maybe even save a bit on daily costs)
