Recap: [Virtual] India, March 29, Ghumakkad Gossip V2: Her Voice on the Map: Celebrating Women Local Guides

Hello Friends,

Thanks to your continued support, Season 2 of the Ghumakkad Gossip Meet-up series has seen incredible enthusiasm, now reaching Episode 7. We began 2026 with meaningful conversations, collaborative learning, and shared energy, setting the tone for an inspiring year ahead.

On March 29, 2026, the episode “Her Voice on the Map: Celebrating Women Local Guides” brought together 37 participants from across the globe, including the Meet-up Moderator (MM), Guest Speaker, and Connect Moderators. The diverse participation, curiosity, and active engagement made the session truly dynamic and enriching, showcasing the growing strength of our global community.

This session brought participants back to the Back to Basics of being a Local Guide, reinforcing that mapping is not just about places, but about people, inclusivity, and empowerment.

Under the theme “Her Voice on the Map,” the discussion highlighted how the community collectively supported and uplifted women by recognizing and promoting women-led businesses and local heroines through accurate listings, reviews, and shared experiences on Google Maps.

I have captured the essence of the session under different sections - take a look, relive the moments, and feel free to share your thoughts!

Quick Introduction of the Attendees :waving_hand:

Participants introduced themselves by sharing their Name, City, Local Guide level, and Connect ID, which they were asked to enter in the chat box.

They were also kindly requested to join the virtual meet-up on time, as a gesture of respect towards the Guest Speaker and fellow participants who arrived punctually .

Improvements brought in :chart_increasing:

Two key enhancements introduced in the GG V2 series:

1. Pre-Session Input Form

A newly designed process has been implemented to make the sessions more interactive and productive. Participants are encouraged to share their thoughts, questions, or reflections in advance, enabling a well-structured and focused discussion during the meet-up, with the goal of achieving tangible outcomes through this form.

2. Real-Time Feedback System

A new feedback mechanism has been introduced to support continuous improvement. Unlike a complaint redressal system, it is designed to gather constructive feedback in real time, enabling timely adjustments and learning during or immediately after the session. Participants are encouraged to share their insights within 48 hours after the meet-up through a dedicated feedback form.

You may still find this feature enabled, but please note that the feedback cycle for the mentioned meet-up has officially closed . It remains accessible solely for demonstration purposes at this time.
The same applies to the Pre-Session Input Form.

Overview of the Meet-up :bullseye:

The Meet-up Moderator (MM) shared the inspiration and intent behind launching the Ghumakkad Gossip Meet-up Series, detailing how the idea was conceived and outlining his vision for taking it forward for the benefit of the community.

Ghumakkad Gossip is a community-driven initiative, created by us, for us, and with us, aimed at building a more collaborative and cohesive platform for everyone to share and learn together.

Story behind the name

‘Ghumakkad’, a Hindi word meaning wanderer, and ‘Ghumakkad Gossip’ translates to Talk with Wanderer. The emphasis here is on the traveller spirit, not just being a tourist, reflecting the true essence of exploration and meaningful journeys.

The MM also outlined a few basic ground rules to ensure the meet-up remains productive and engaging for all participants.

Introduction of Guest Speaker :loudspeaker:

As part of the theme “Her Voice on the Map,” we had the privilege of hosting Connect Moderator Feliciana (@Velvel) from Jakarta, Indonesia. Her presence greatly enriched the session with valuable knowledge, practical experience, and insightful guidance on supporting businesses through Google Maps.

A firm believer in the impact of meaningful contributions, she reflected the true spirit of the theme. As a passionate foodie, she highlighted coffee shops, bakeries, and restaurants, guiding the community on discovering and supporting them effectively.

Participants gained key learnings on writing detailed reviews, creating lists, and sharing impactful photos and videos. The session was both inspiring and insightful, offering practical takeaways while reinforcing our collective journey toward a more inclusive map.

Gossip with Guest Speaker on the topic :studio_microphone:

The session with our Guest Speaker began with an engaging discussion on what inspires continued contributions as a woman Local Guide. Feliciana highlighted that being a Local Guide, whether a woman or a man, requires dedication, consistency, and a commitment to one’s shared vision and passion. She also shared her personal experiences as a foodie, illustrating how she channels her interests into meaningful contributions on Google Maps, helping the community discover and support local businesses.

She further delved into the importance of writing detailed reviews and sharing impactful photos and videos that effectively showcase businesses, with a special focus on restaurants and food experiences. Her guidance emphasized how thoughtful contributions can help the community discover and appreciate local establishments more meaningfully.

Her approach was clear and practical, illustrated with examples covering five key aspects of writing standout reviews: supporting them with relevant photos and videos. For restaurant or food reviews, she emphasized including details about the exterior, interior, ambiance, service, food, taste, and recommendations.

When it came to creating meaningful lists, she demonstrated using her own examples, highlighting the importance of adding a description and notes for every place included, ensuring the list is informative and valuable for the community.

While responding to Sonam’s question on advice for new entrants in the Connect Forum and what helps members truly thrive, she connected it with a similar query from her fellow Local Guide friend from the USA, Tessa (@anu7spice), who had asked how to stay motivated to contribute to the community.

Feliciana emphasized that the key lies in discovering one’s passion and purpose. She illustrated this with Tessa’s example; her love for outdoor travel inspires her to share her experiences on Connect. She then shared a related post to further highlight this approach.

Key Takeaways :high_voltage:

  1. Contribute on Google Maps with a shared passion to genuinely help users.
  2. Write detailed and meaningful reviews to add value for the community.
  3. For restaurant or food reviews, cover key aspects such as exterior, interior, ambiance, service, food, taste, and recommendations; supported by relevant photos and/or videos.
  4. Create well-structured lists with clear descriptions and relevant notes for every place included.
  5. Support women-led businesses through thoughtful and impactful contributions on Google Maps.

Disclaimer:light_bulb:

The guest speaker’s inputs are based solely on personal experiential learning and insights. Any practices or approaches discussed should be adopted in alignment with applicable Google policies and guidelines, as deemed appropriate by individual practitioners. Learning outcomes may vary, as they are shaped by personal experience and practical application.

Key Success Factor :trophy:

  1. Effective promotion of the meet-up through multiple networking channels. Thanks NareshDarji, TravellerG and K. K. Sharma.
  2. Punctuality of participants - With 80% of participants joining on or before the scheduled time, the Meet-up Moderator was able to start and conclude the session as planned. Given the popularity of our Guest Speaker and the enthusiastic participation, a possible extension was anticipated and communicated at the outset. Timely attendance also helped minimize delays in admitting participants. Thank you all.
  3. Pre meet-up mock sessions between the MM and the Guest Speaker ensured smooth coordination and preparedness for the final meet-up.

Hello my dear friend @Kumaarsantosh
Wow… A wonderful and exhaustive RECAP… highly appreciate your valuable time dedicated to conceive and present this post.

There are many important points worth highlighting… great :+1:.

One of the most important point I felt is the above one - many LGs (including me) need to focus on some of the aspects, our dear @Velvel has explained - specially appreciate it and thanks for the same.

Due to guests at home, I couldn’t involve fully in the meet-up, for the whole time - sorry for the same.

My best wishes for all the success for more GG series.
