Multiple stars to rate a business for improving the information to the customers

When we visit a business listing - a restaurant is the perfect example - we can see that frequently the same place have a long range of stars, from 1 to 5, and of course the average, calculated by Google Maps.

If you spend some minutes in reading the reviews, you will see that someone gave 1 star because they had to wait for a long time, others gave 5 stars because the food is excellent, others starred the service or the price.

So it will be helpful if we have separate stars for this. Let say:

  • Quality of product
  • Service
  • Waiting time
  • (other options depending of the type of business)

This will help the customers to know what to expect from a business. Someone will be happy to enjoy a good meal, even if they have to wait for a long time, while some other will prefere a place with a fast service and a low price, even if with a lower quality

I agree @ErmesT
I think. Because 5 stars and 1 star have already inflated, Therefore
they are used easily. Originally it should be 4 stars or 2 stars. It may be rectified by your suggestion.

I would add that it would work best if the user searching for a place was allowed to set his preferences using the same list qualities, which would affect the average rating for a place which would become a weighted average now. For example, when I'm looking for a quick eat I push "waiting time" to max and places rated as "quick" come to the top.

I would also consider another factor - reviews by users with preferences / experience similar to mine get higher weight.

Or maybe also - apply higher weight to reviews from users who went to many places from specific category. For example: a person who often goes to different Vietnamese restos is reviewing Vietnamese restaurant - their review gets high weight.

But here's one problem I can see with that idea - complexity confusing and overwhelming average Joe type of user. IMO it would have to be an opt-in functionality.

Hi @ErmesT

Now I found your post after I posted yesterday the same concept idea 4 Basic Rating Sub Categories

So they should be merge probably.

maps3.png

My suggestion though was to have the same 4 basic categorizes for any type of place Price, Quality, Customer Service, and Installation/Ambient...because I was thinking how easy would be to implement it on Google Maps.

But if it can be implemented with more specificity by the type of place as you said then that's even better.

I had have already realized that @ErmesT . I totally agree with you. It's Really unfair...

Thank you for your feedback @justguiding , and sorry for reaching you so late.

Yes, I believe @Petra_M should merge the two ideas

Oh, I see @MortenSI

I supposed it was already implemented (at least for hotels): Multiple Stars for hotels

So now I know it was not because of me 😞

Thank you so much in any case

Hope in the future Google will reopen the idea
