Google couldn't verify, but we can help to Google

How does Google verify edits? So far, I do contribute to Google map fairly with good knowledge. Sadly, Google simply reject edits without any valid reason. Therefore, I would like to give some ideas.

  • If edits reject, we should have an appeal method. This could be limited words (or 100-200 characters) to report to Google or there could be method to send reference. Eg: https://goo.gl/maps/UpAhZ1hQU7Mi5YFb9 - It is actually (Refer Bone Island).

I have suggested to rename Kokku Theevu கொக்குத் தீவு into Bone Island. However, it was rejected by saying "Google couldn't verify". My edits were rejected twice when I tried to give correct name. I guess earlier it was Bone Island, and some body changed as Kokku Theevu கொக்குத் தீவு. Kokku Theevu is transliteration of கொக்குத் தீவு which could be translated into Crane Island. Sadly, the nearest Batticaloa lagoon is labeled as Bone Island. I don't know how lagoon became as island!?

  • There could be a method such a note to rename or method to submit reference(s) during edit the name / rename.

I got error "Your post has been changed because invalid HTML was found in the message body. The invalid HTML has been removed. Please review the message and submit the message when you are satisfied." when I tried to add embed map of https://goo.gl/maps/UpAhZ1hQU7Mi5YFb9 I didn't make any change in HTML and I have good knowledge in HTML.

Local Guides cannot embed a map in Connect, @AntanO

It was possible in the past but the feature has been removed due to abuse on the use of i-Frame.

That's what the message means: Your code has been changed because that part is considered invalid

Local Guides cannot edit geographic features on the map @AntanO - really that place you linked shouldn't be on Maps at all because its certainly not a tourist attraction it is just an island that appears to be barren. There is a label right next to it as "Bone Island".

@PaulPavlinovich Thanks for the note. It would be good if anyone correct it.

https://goo.gl/maps/YLJeBrzN9pSC3mH18 - This is another scam, and some people just add on Google.

ダンブッラ行きバス停 - Japanese bus stop? 🙂

https://goo.gl/maps/9FJwVEHxg267ZMQo7 - car park in the Indian Ocean?

https://goo.gl/maps/PeT81ACpDebmC39t9 - Colombo shifted to Indian Ocean? 🙂

We really need to improve the existing methods.

@AntanO  If you are absolutely certain and have evidence then you can post on the Maps Support Community https://support.google.com/maps/community and provide the evidence for review.

The car park was just a wrong pin. I found where it really is and suggested an edit.

Local Guides should not add a bus stop so you can mark it closed, this is managed by transit partners.

Some of the others are using a common trick of showing their business at an empty lot to try and seem local. You should report these too.
