Autosizing photo file size to Connect every time

I would love it if the photos I try to upload to Connect could resize itself automatically from any of my devices (phone, iPad, or desktop). I find that many times I want to upload a photo or to Connect and I get an ".jpeg exceeds maximum file size of 3072K".

It doesn't happen all the time, but it happens enough times that it becomes annoying and I stop wanting to upload a photo to Connect because it takes me time to download and edit the file size (harder to do on a mobile device) and then try to upload again.

Cheers,

Karen

Hi @KarenVChin, thanks for this great idea! We’ve shared it with the team, and they’d love to make it a reality. We’ll post an update when we have more info.

@KarenVChin what puzzles me is that if we are serving photos from Google Photos, which is  configured for unlimited, then why do we still need to further downgrade the quality of a photo.

BTW, I had posted the same request back in 2017 October or November sometime.  Did you not find it when searching for this topic?

We face problem while posting photos on connect beacuse of the size restriction

Level 10

@I_Hope Ensuring photos stay within a certain size limit helps a lot with the performance and responsiveness of viewing post on the site. In my opinion, Limit 3MB photo should be quite sufficient for quality. The only short fall we need to address is how to make it easier for our posting experience. Many social media sites actually automatically resize media to reduce bandwidth and improve performance automatically. That would be a good idea to share in Idea Exchange.

We sometimes still run into comments in Connect about the difficulty of uploading photos over 3MB which isn't supported, mainly to ensure Connect posts and load quickly and efficiently. However, that gives an extra few steps for mobile users who nowadays have very high megapixel phone shooters.

The idea is that for the Connect web site to automatically detect, resize, optimize media before uploading as a post. This is preferably done on the client side vs the server side. This is to improve performance of posting and also loading/viewing, and reduces bandwidth and data usage on both sides. Many social media sites have this incorporated.

This will make Connect faster and provide a better user experience.

Hi @I_Hope,

Thank you for your idea.

As @StephenAbraham already updated you, a similar idea is existing.

Please note that I've merged your idea to it - Connect posts automatically resize and optimize photos and media.
