Wonder of Waterfalls: Jonha Waterfall, Ranchi

This post is in the series of “Wonder of waterfalls” initiated by @Kumaarsantosh

I had visited Jonha Falls near Ranchi, and I must say — what an absolute gem! :herb::sweat_droplets: Ranchi, often called the “City of Waterfalls,” truly lives up to its name, and Jonha Falls is one of its shining highlights.

The falls are formed by the RARHU river plunging dramatically, creating a breathtaking cascade that’s both powerful and serene. To reach the base, you have to descend around 500 steps, which adds a little adventure to the experience — and trust me, the view at the bottom is totally worth it!

The lush greenery, the roar of the water, and the fresh mist in the air make Jonha Falls a perfect escape into nature’s beauty. If you’re ever in Ranchi, don’t miss this place — it’s a must-see for every traveler and nature lover!

How to Reach Jonha Falls & Accessibility :wheelchair_symbol: : accessibility

  • By Road: Jonha Falls is about 40 km from Ranchi city. You can hire a taxi, take a private car, or use local buses heading towards Jonha village.
  • By Train: The nearest railway station is Jonha Railway Station, around 1.5 km from the falls. From there, you can walk or take a local vehicle.
  • Accessibility :wheelchair_symbol: : To reach the base of the falls, visitors must descend around 500 steep steps, so it may not be suitable for elderly travelers or those with mobility challenges. Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for a bit of a climb back up!

Thank you sir for your nice words @TravellerG

In the city of Ranchi, there is more than 7 waterfalls in and around the city. That is why it is also called as “City of waterfalls”. However, the beauty of waterfalls in Kerala, Karnataka and Tamilnadu cannot be compared to these one.

Thanks again.

Yes, they are water-rich…that is why…

Fortunately, I could locate a photo of “Abbey Waterfall” showcased by our @Kumaarsantosh in his post.

Dear friend, Santhosh, I hope you remember this frame; I climbed a few steps and captured it from a height.

Also, hope that you both will like it.

PS:
Used “Slow Shutter Speed”, and hence the water is creamy.

Wow…yes that’s the perfect view.

Creamy water layer is quite evident. This is something to learn by new age mobile photographers.

Thanks for sharing dear friend @TravellerG.

Wow, I didn’t know about this! I’ll definitely use that tip next time. Slowing the shutter speed to capture creamy water sounds amazing. Thanks so much for the suggestion — I still have so much to learn about photography! @TravellerG @Kumaarsantosh .

While reducing the Shutter-Speed, you should hold the camera very steady… otherwise the total shot will be shaky.

The typical Shutter-Speed will be between 1/10 to 1/40 Sec…
Just for your kind guidance…
Thanks :+1:
