Wonder of Waterfalls: Bear Shola Falls

Hello Friends,

Welcome to my brand-new series "Wonders of Waterfalls’. In this series, I’ll take you on a journey through some beautiful waterfalls—both from across India and beyond. Please note, the places featured here are ones I’ve personally visited.

Though this is not a challenge series, I warmly invite you to share your own experiences and interesting stories about waterfalls in the comment section below!

In the fourth post of this series, I’m excited to take you to Bear Shola Falls, located in Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, India—a lesser-explored yet captivating waterfall. Tucked away in dense forest, Bear Shola Falls isn’t the easiest to locate. I faced a few challenges finding it myself, but my determination to explore paid off. A bumpy ride led us to the starting point of a short forest trail. The trek itself was light, peaceful, and truly enjoyable.

The name “Bear Shola” comes from the fact that Bears used to come here to drink water. The waterfall is seasonal and reaches its full glory during the monsoon months—making that the best time to visit. Unfortunately, during my visit, I didn’t get to see it in full flow.

Interestingly, in my previous post, I covered Tiger Falls, which was similarly named because tigers from nearby forests used to visit that spot for water. A fun coincidence in this waterfall journey!

Surrounded by lush greenery and the dense forest, Bear Shola Falls offers a serene escape. Like Tiger Falls, Bear Shola is also a great spot for photography and videography, with its natural beauty providing a stunning backdrop.

:video_camera: Bonus: A Glimpse of Bear Shola Falls

If you’re in Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, a visit to Bear Shola Falls is a must to experience a stunning seasonal waterfall that comes alive in all its glory during the monsoon months.

Keep building a well-informed community stronger :flexed_biceps: together.

Stay Happy, Stay Healthy!

JAI HO!!!

What a wonderful addition to your Wonder of Waterfalls series, @Kumaarsantosh :herb::sparkles: Bear Shola Falls looks so serene, and I really liked the story behind its name. It’s interesting how both Tiger Falls and Bear Shola Falls were named after the animals that once visited them for water — a beautiful reminder of the deep bond between nature and wildlife. :tiger::bear::droplet:

Your narration makes it easy to imagine the peaceful trek through the forest trail. I’ll surely keep this on my list whenever I plan a trip to Kodaikanal. Thanks for taking us along on this refreshing journey! :raising_hands::ocean:

Thank you so much dear friend @TravellerG.
Bear Shola Falls is a bit tucked away, so it’s easy to miss on a short trip. Definitely worth a visit next time you are in Kodaikanal especially during or just after the monsoons. Glad you enjoyed the photos and narration. :hearts: :handshake:

Hi @fachrie230,

Absolutely agree, the waterfall’s splash combined with the natural sounds truly feels like nature’s own hypnotherapy. So calming and refreshing. :sweat_droplets:

It is hardly 10 minutes drive from the famous Kurinji Andavar Temple followed by a less than a thousand meter trail.
