The Google team joins the spotlight! #CommunitySpotlight2025

Hello Local Guides!

We have been absolutely blown away by the energy surrounding the Community Spotlight 2025! Inspired by the incredible diversity of content and the passion you’ve all shown as we celebrated #10YearsOfLocalGuides, our Google team couldn’t resist joining in to support this initiative. A special thanks to @AdrianLunsong for welcoming us to join the fun and giving us the honor of concluding the series —until next year!

While you often see our names popping up around Connect, we realize you don’t always get the chance to know the Googlers behind the posts. To bridge that gap, we’ve put together this topic designed to help you discover ‘who is who’ and what we do in our Local Guides Google team — all with a fresh and fun angle.

We are thrilled to kick things off from New York (& Gurgaon!), but keep an eye out: a follow-up topic featuring our amazing Google Moderators based in Sofia is already in the works!

Let the spotlight begin!

A Novice Director. Because I never share videos, but I should because I find them so helpful when others post. :grapes:

To wrap things up, we want to switch gears slightly. While we love wearing our ‘Googler hats’ here on Connect, at heart, we are also explorers and contributors just like all of you. When we aren’t working, we’re out there discovering the world around us! We got curious about our own contributing habits, so we polled our team on the classic debate: Reviews vs. Photos. The verdict? 4 of us lean towards Team Photo while the other 3 are dedicated reviewers! What about you?

  • I am Team Photos :camera_with_flash:
  • I am Team Detailed Reviews :memo:

Speaking of exploring, our wanderlust is already kicking in for next year. We asked the team where they hope 2026 will take them, and the results are below:

  • Italy :italy:
  • Morocco :egypt:
  • Kerala, India :india:
  • South Korea :south_korea:
  • Edinburgh, Scotland :united_kingdom:
  • Somewhere warm that I have never visited - maybe Indonesia or Australia? :indonesia: :australia:
  • Napa Valley, California :united_states:

Now, here is a challenge for you: Can you guess who picked which dream destination? Drop your matches in the comments below — we’ll update this post in a few days to reveal the correct answers!

Update: Destination Reveal! Click to see who picked which destination.

You guessed it—the hints were hidden emojis in our responses :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: ! Congrats to those who spotted them and to everyone who guessed right.

The Community Spotlight has been a truly commendable initiative led by @AdrianLunsong, offering a meaningful platform for all of us to connect, learn, and gain deeper insights into diverse communities across multiple dimensions. It has been both enriching and inspiring to understand the uniqueness, values, and contributions of various communities, creating a sense of shared learning and collective growth. The initiative has generated a resonant vibrancy across the ecosystem, fostering stronger connections and engagement.

Being featured early in the series as a global TRAC Community, alongside the Canada team, was particularly special and encouraging. It set a strong and positive tone for the Spotlight series, reinforcing the global and inclusive spirit of the community and demonstrating the impact of collaboration beyond geographical boundaries. Kudos to @SholaIB.

It is also heartening to learn more about the Googlers who support the community in their respective roles and capacities. Your continued guidance, commitment, and behind-the-scenes efforts are what keep the community active, thriving, and evolving each day. The community’s growth and success are a direct reflection of your dedication. Thank you, @Julie_A, for thoughtfully sharing these insights with us through the Community Spotlight.

The challenge introduced as part of this initiative appears both engaging and thought-provoking. I look forward to reflecting on it further and will be sharing my response soon.

@Julie_A

I missed participating in Community Spotlight due to health reasons, but I will continue working on it next year!
My first choice will be South Korea, and my second Edinburgh, Scotland. :crossed_fingers:

It was a great show, and I was pretty excited to see the participation from so many LGs around the world.

My favorites were Colors, Culture, and Costumes](Let's celebrate Colours, Culture and Costumes - The Fashion of Incredible India) by @Supriyadevkar and Celebrating Sikkim by @SonamW, as it is my favorite destination in India.

My heartiest congratulations to @AdrianLunsong for getting this done globally! Amazing!!
To @curatorofmemory and his team for getting it done from the Indian community here.

Cheers!

Huge appreciation to the Local Guides Google team for stepping into the spotlight and letting us see the people behind the posts. It really strengthens the sense of connection on Connect.

I’m personally Team Photos :camera_with_flash: - visuals often spark curiosity first, then the story follows.
As for the dream destinations, here are my guesses:

  • East Java, Indonesia :indonesia: - Tina, Latika, David, Alex, Kristen, Julie & Tiffany

Can’t wait to see how close or far these guesses are. Thanks again for celebrating 10 years of Local Guides in such a meaningful way looking forward to what’s next in 2026!

It is very entertaining, and I love this post at the end of the Spotlight Week. We don’t really get to know much about the Googlers and the post really gives us a great idea on who is who. Thank you for featuring and sharing this @Julie_A

From my observation, I would match Googler and destinations:

@DavidK- Morocco
@Kristen_NYC- Somewhere warm that I have never visited - maybe Indonesia or Australia?
@Latika_Malhotra - Napa Valley, California
@Julie_A - Italy
@TinaWill - Edinburgh, Scotland
@Alextsuievers - South Korea
@TiffanyBnyc- Kerala, India

Don’t we all love those kind of guessing games! And most likely the pictures contain hints, right? [Still in LG10ScavengerHunt mode here :wink:]

  • Italy :italy: @TiffanyBnyc - “Spotlight on Marco”… that’s an easy one!
  • Morocco :egypt: @Kristen_NYC - the country name is Morocco, but the flag is Egypt; that must be on purpose [as we all know: Googlers never make mistakes], and the most prominent letter behind her is E as in Egypt
  • Kerala, India :india: @alextsuievers - she uses the letter “i” (as in India) 15 times in a few short sentences, pretty obvious if you ask me
  • South Korea :south_korea: @Latika_Malhotra - she’s based in India and following the direction she’s looking at, I ended up in South-Korea
  • Edinburgh, Scotland :united_kingdom: @David_K - no, no, no… we’re not falling for those easy misguiding tricks, such as having a picture from India in the background; so I checked what was far away from India
  • Somewhere warm that I have never visited - maybe Indonesia or Australia? :indonesia: :australia: @Julie_A - she’s holding a microphone, a device that allows sound to travel a long distance, a clear hint a far-away destinations
  • Napa Valley, California :united_states: @TinaWill - This the closest in the list to more of @JustJake 's Arizona cactus candies [and I have to admit I FULLY understand her craving for it]

And thanks @Julie_A for selecting my post as your most memorable :heart:

Thank you @Julie_A for introducing Google Team with the Community Spotlight 2025 by @AdrianLunsong.

It’s great to see familiar faces, especially @David_K , @Kristen_NYC, @Latika_Malhotra & @TinaWill that ConnectLIVE BLR attendees met.

Introduction of @Julie_A, @alextsuievers & @TiffanyBnyc (How to help LGBTQ+ businesses stand out is one of my favourite inspiring post by @TiffanyBnyc) through the community spotlighting is awesome and I hope I can meet them through future events.

ConnectLIVE 2025 is indeed a reason why 2025 is a best year for me as a local guide which would be the interaction within the community.

I thank @AdrianLunsong for giving every Community a space to highlight on this spotlight.
