Help others choose sustainability with Google Maps

Happy Mother Earth Day to all!

The initiatives described are great ways to help with sustainability causes, especially when we are not in our home country and need to know more about local collection, or when we need to move to another neighborhood or state and need to learn more.

A great initiative is to mark collection points for batteries and plastic packaging in private companies such as supermarkets, department stores and pharmacies. This helps a lot, preventing illegal disposal in inappropriate places.

@Julie_A Thanks for bringing up this important topic and tagging my review in your post. :globe_showing_europe_africa: I love the idea of using Google Maps reviews to promote sustainability! Sharing details about a place’s eco-friendly practices really helps others make greener choices. :leaf_fluttering_in_wind:

I’m thrilled to share that I started the #NoPlasticSpoons Challenge (Ditch Plastic Spoons), which urges local guides to push restaurants to swap single-use plastic spoons for sustainable options like biodegradable or wooden or metal cutlery. It’s a small step that can make a huge difference in cutting down plastic waste!

Just like we add accessibility details to make places more inclusive, I’m encouraging everyone to mention the type of cutlery used in restaurant reviews.

For example, I have started noting whether a place uses plastic, wooden, or metal spoons - it’s a simple way to highlight their sustainability efforts and nudge businesses toward better practices. (My Reviews E.g.: Lords Banquet, Dakshin Bhojanam, Shri Umiya Kachhi Dabeli )

Let’s inspire each other to make a positive impact! :green_heart:

Just pitched in for our planet right here in Karachi! :flexed_biceps: Spent some quality time at our local beach, giving it a good clean-up and making sure it’s a little more beautiful for everyone. Then, got my hands a bit muddy planting some new trees in our community. Every little bit counts, right? :seedling::ocean: Let’s keep making our neighborhoods greener and cleaner, one step at a time!

Thank you for sharing the post @Julie_A
Indeed it’s great opportunity to choose the sustainability with Google Maps.

Hi @Julie_A !

You reminded me of a post of mine where I had hung a sign inviting the inhabitants of my town to decorate an old abandoned tree trunk on the bank of a stream. Fortunately, many people did their best to insert flowers and plants into the trunk, and the town liked it and added two more to the first trunk!

This is the post: [An opportunity to give birth to something new!]

Have a good day,

Thanks @Julie_A for sharing this amazing tips… i have to do something on these earth Month to help others choose sustainability with Good maps and every day.

Happy Earth day 2024!

Hola tengo una consulta, saben si hay algún foro de sustentabilidad que sea de latino america?

Earth Day is every day. One way I contribute to celebrating this day and sustaining our environment is by teaching young people (students) daily about the importance of preserving our natural ecosystem. Every year, I engage with approximately 500 students on sustainable environment topics.

Additionally, I host environmental-related events or join organizations hosting larger events, such as beach cleaning, ecosystem restoration, and awareness creation in local communities.

The little efforts we make locally can go a long way to make the earth a more livable place even after we are gone.

This year, my fellow Local Guides from Local Guides Indonesia,Sidoarjo Local Guides and Indonesia Roamers have started a collaboration to support various initiatives at Hutan Wakaf Mojokerto, a community conservation forest in East Java.

We’re joining efforts in forest conservation activities, from tree planting and environmental education to promoting eco-tourism through Google Maps contributions and social media.

We believe that small actions from the community can create a big impact for a greener, more sustainable future.

@Julie_A I must say, your topic on sustainability on Earth’s Day celebration was a great idea.
I never thought I would click pictures of garbage bins someday, thanks to your inspirational post, I started noticing garbage bins and recycled bins anywhere and everywhere. The most recent was in Sundar Nursery ,Delhi. I was drawn to this bin because of its meaningful caption. Some sensible person’s creative thought to put captions there did the trick.
