This post is a part of the #GoGreenWithMaps series (which focuses on helping local businesses that help environment , map Sustainability features, learn, share tips & do fun Map edits to save our planet and keep it green and clean !l). This post is also a part of a World Envirnment Day challenge by @Smita_Patil .
I recently visited a local pharmacy near me called New Megha Chemist and General Store in Mumbai , and it was a family-owned small medical and general store shop where the owner mentioned to me that it was a ‘Green Pharmacy’ while I was taking photos to upload on Maps ! That made me curious and I asked her what measures they take to make sure that their pharmacy is a ‘Green Pharmacy’ ? She said in our pharmacy we have the below facilities :
- Have green bins that collect expired medicine capsules , bottles , etc so that they can be recycled (not only customers but anyone who wishes to !). They then send it to bio-recycling centers to avoid biowaste.
- They follow BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag) policy and in case you don’t have a carry bag, they pack all the purchased items in paper bags.
- Use electric or eco-friendly vehicles for transport of our medicines and other products
- Use green electricity
- Keep local , natural and organic substitute products specially for children
Here is my review of the pharmacy and I am searching for new green pharmacies in my area and have created a list : Green Pharmacy in Mumbai list.
In case you are in Mumbai and know any green pharmacy , feel free to add to this list !

Thanks a ton for this post @Globe_trotter_Ish . I had not come across green pharmacy earlier.
I am glad for your participation in WED challenge and sharing this informative post.
BYOB is such a nice way to reduce our own carbon footprint. This morning I was thinking about how we used to get milk earlier in glass.bottles. I do not remember what people did if they broke or lost the bottle but it was similar to that pointer in the post BYOB (bottle).
Thanks again for sharing this green post.

Great post…! @Globe_trotter_Ish I am glad to see how others are becoming conscious of their environment and taking the steps to make their business more sustainable. Even small changes can make a big difference in our world. This pharmacy is unique and it’s a great step towards conservation of the environment. It’s great that you took photos of the pharmacy and then uploaded them to Maps so other people can take note and be inspired to do the same. Thank you for sharing this and for creating a list of green pharmacies in Mumbai. I am sure this will become very helpful for a lot of people looking for greener alternatives in their area.
