Celebrate Small Business Month with Me 🛍️⭐

Hy Local Guides, :shopping_bags:

May is officially Small Business Month, a time to celebrate & shine a spotlight on the unique shops, family-run cafes & independent creators that form the heartbeat of our neighborhoods. Last year, we saw how to support small businesses & I am so excited to keep that momentum going.

As Local Guides, we have a unique opportunity to help these businesses thrive. Our contributions on Google Maps can make a world of difference, from writing helpful reviews :writing_hand:t2: and uploading informative media :selfie:t2: to editing attributes :dizzy:, every contribution helps a neighbor find their new favorite spot.

This month isn’t just about commerce; it’s about the people behind the storefronts. Our community has a long-standing tradition of championing diversity and inclusion. On this Month, we are continuing our mission of inclusive mapping, from recognizing incredible Local Heroines :woman:t2: who lead and innovate in our cities and ensuring our maps reflect safe and welcoming LGBTQ+ :rainbow_flag: friendly businesses for everyone, to uplifting sustainable :recycling_symbol: and handcraft businesses that prioritize our planet and preserve traditional skills.

We are also drawing inspiration from the amazing work happening across our community:

From supporting small sustainable businesses like Madurai’s Legacy :herb: shared by @MathanVibranarayan, @DurgaK03 hosting meetups :busts_in_silhouette: to support local small businesses on Google Maps and @AjitThite providing insights on why our edits matter for small local businesses :red_question_mark:, to @TusharSuradkar supporting small local businesses on Holi :splatter:.

How can you support small businesses on Google Maps this month? :glowing_star:

  • Visit a Local Business :woman_walking:t2:: Head to your favorite neighborhood spot - whether it’s a bakery, a bookstore or a boutique.
  • Update Business’s information :information_source:: Check if their hours :alarm_clock: are correct, add photos of their products & check for accessibility features like wheelchair-accessible entrances :wheelchair_symbol:.
  • Write a Helpful Review :writing_hand:t2:: Mention what makes them special with your experience. Do they have a recycling program? Is the shop accessible to all? These details help others make informed choices.
  • Share Your Story :handshake:: Write a comment below :backhand_index_pointing_down:t2: or publish a post about how you supported a small business on Google Maps & it’s impact story which would inspire community.

Small businesses give our cities their character and soul. Let’s show them some love this month and help more people discover these local treasures.

What a wonderful initiative @Rahul001 This month, I’m planning to visit a few neighborhood tea stalls and small grocery shops and make sure their information is accurate and up to date.
