Hy Local Guides,
This Week starts Women’s Week with International Women’s Day on March 8th. In this Amazing Week with stories, let’s meet a woman software developer who is also a local guide and an active contributor in our community.
Let’s meet @EshaHarish.
Esha Harish from Bangalore, India who works as a software developer. Outside of work, she loves drawing, teaching, and just exploring new things, whether it’s a place, a hobby, or a different way of thinking.
Let’s hear what Esha has to say:
- What inspired you to pursue a software development career?
Answer : I was always curious about how things worked. Growing up, I loved figuring out patterns and solving problems. Eventually, I realized that software development isn’t just about coding, it’s about creating something useful, solving real-world challenges, and making life easier for people. That’s what keeps me excited about it. A quote that stuck with me is :
“The best way to predict the future is to create it.”
- How has being a Local Guide enriched your connection with the community?
Answer : Being a Local Guide has changed the way I see my city. Instead of just being a visitor to places, I now feel like a storyteller, capturing moments and sharing insights that can help others. I once discovered a small, hidden homestay in the Malanadu region that had no online presence. After sharing my review and pictures, I saw more people engaging with the place, and the owner was so happy to see new customers. That’s when I realized the power of sharing, sometimes, the smallest contributions can make a big difference.
- Have you noticed any improvements in gender representation/inclusivity in the tech industry?
Answer : Yes, there’s definitely progress. More women are entering tech, and companies are becoming more inclusive. But I’ve also seen the challenges firsthand, like being the only woman in a room full of male developers. There were times when I hesitated to speak up, fearing I might be wrong. But over time, I realized that confidence grows when we take that first step.
- If you could use your software skills to make an app or tool for Local Guides, what would it be?
Answer : I’d love to build an app that helps Local Guides collaborate better. Maybe something that suggests places based on a user’s interests and past contributions or even a platform where guides can work together on improving a city’s map, kind of like a community-driven navigation tool.
- What does Women’s Day mean to you, and how can we empower women in both tech and Connect?
Answer : For me, Women’s Day is about celebrating the progress we’ve made while recognizing the work still left to do. Empowering women in tech and connect isn’t just about giving opportunities, it’s about creating an environment where women feel supported, valued, and encouraged to lead.
- Do you have any message you want to convey to our community on this Women’s Day?
Answer : To all the amazing women out there, keep pushing forward, keep breaking barriers, and most importantly, support each other. The world needs your ideas, your perspective, and your brilliance. Don’t hold back.
Thank you Esha for your wonderful interview on this Women’s Week.
