Hidden Wonders of Nature: Beyond What Meets the Eye

With reference to the challenge posted by @TusharSuradkar ,here are my entries, that truly amazed me.
Once, I posted a picture of mine showing just a rock, and many instantly recognized it as being from Mullayanagiri. What amazed me was that there was no visible trace of the hills, just the rock. The reason? The rock formations in these hills have a distinct structure, making them easily identifiable. Ref photo is attached in this post: Photo

I’ve seen many tall trees, but most had thin stems. This one, however, was exceptionally tall with a thick, massive trunk, likely formed thousands of years ago in the Western Ghats. Unfortunately, I couldn’t capture the full tree as I was in a moving vehicle.

Beaches are usually known for their golden sands and rolling waves, but some stand out with striking red rocks. Their deep hues and unique textures are shaped by iron-rich minerals and centuries of weathering. These formations quietly narrate the story of Earth’s geological past, yet they often go unnoticed amidst the beauty of the shore.

A simple, abundant plant that most of us have seen and even played with as kids, making chains or accessories from its flowers. However, beyond its playful use, it holds significant medicinal properties. When applied to even large wounds, it aids in rapid healing.

Another plant in my collection is known to be a powerful natural remedy for kidney stones. We often step on these plants, unaware of their value, yet they possess remarkable healing abilities.

The leaves posted by @TusharSuradkar , claimed to be 4 to 5 feet long typically grow near water bodies and are traditionally used to prepare the famous dish Patrode and it naturally grows in pots as well.

Nature isn’t just about breathtaking views and photography; it’s also about the hidden wonders that often go unnoticed. Every element in nature, when observed closely, has an unusual or amazing aspect that makes it special.

Amazing captures! The rock from Mullayanagiri and the red formations at Om Beach truly highlight nature’s uniqueness. Thanks for sharing @EshaHarish

The plant shown in the photo is Miracle leaf, known as ಕಾಡು ಬಸಳೆ (Kadu Basale) in Kannada, which is different from the leaves used to make Patrode.
As I’m from Udupi, I know that Patrode is made from Colocasia leaves (Kesuvina Ele), not the Miracle Leaf.

Thank you so much! @saidevadiga Glad you liked the captures. Since the leaves resembled Colocasia, I assumed it was the same. I wasn’t aware that Miracle Leaf could have such long leaves. If this is indeed Miracle Leaf, that’s interesting to know! Thanks for the information—I’ll explore more about it.

@saidevadiga This is the kadu basale, the miracle leaf (Kalanchoe pinnata). Please correct me if I’m wrong, it is good to have right information!

@EshaHarish I saw the picture above and read the description, so I thought that was a patrode leaf. Sorry for the confusion!
