AMD Awareness Month also known as Age related Macular Degeneration and Low Vision Awareness Month is observed in February. It was initiated in 2018 to raise awareness of blindness and low vision that is seen in elderly persons. AMD is a common age condition that can lead to vision low and blindness in older people.

How to prevent:

  • Maintain a balanced and healthy diet.
  • Take / Get regular Eye exams.
  • Exercise Regularly.

Visual Accessibility and Age-friendly

We can relate visual accessibility and age-friendly (an initiative and idea from @TravellerG and to know more, please check his post) in this month.

For aged/elderly persons who need visual accessibility, we as a local guide can contribute as follows in the reviews (with images):

  • Wheelchair ramps with handle bars.
  • Age-friendly options like seating priority in transit.
  • Age-friendly bathrooms (bathrooms with handlebars inside).
  • Tactile paving paths.
  • Pet-friendly (for Guide Dogs).
