Accessibility: WHO Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities (Part -1) for You & Me - TravellerG

Whether a teenager or a person in our fifties, this topic is equally important to all, because we all have to retire one day in our life…right? If so…better plan from today…

Age-friendly Communities (AFC - a WHO Mission) give older people more opportunities to participate in everyday life, age healthily, and live without discrimination or poverty. They also provide an environment to age with dignity and autonomy and enjoy opportunities to grow and develop as individuals while contributing to their community.

This WHO’s mission is to stimulate and enable communities and cities worldwide to become increasingly age-friendly. According to WHO, this can be achieved by:

● Inspiring changes which can show ‘what can be done and how it can be done’;

● Connecting communities and cities worldwide to facilitate the exchange of information, knowledge and experience in providing an age-friendly environment; and

● Supporting communities and cities to find ‘Local and Global Problems’ and develop appropriate innovative and evidence-based solutions.

Currently, this WHO Global Network for Age-friendly mission includes 1705 cities and communities in 60 countries and covers over 330 million people worldwide.

An age-friendly city or community provides ample opportunities for voluntary work and paid employment. It encourages civic participation for older people so that they can continue to contribute to themselves and their communities, after retirement.

If you know any communities with this vision, they can be prompted to apply for Membership in this global community—WHO Application Form.

What is your opinion about this topic, dear all LGs, and also our Googler @DeniGu

Thank you @TravellerG for bringing it forward. What you said is true, I have seen a lot of age-friendly features like ticket counters, tourist attractions, entrance of business, etc…

Wonderful topic TG ,if we can do these three points, we can set the bench mark in accessibility for all for worldwide standard.

I will say only one word Amazing :star_struck:

We Shail highlight these points in the next post…
Thanks for your kind response and valuable support.

You didn’t understand my point of view dear TG…
If large mass crowd is aware & educated about the importants of one accessibility for all standard in one world & highlight the already implemented accessibility for all more benefited to all to everyone. Like the Ramps is benefited to everyone age-friendly,Evan all types of handicapped people.

This is good for the future and generation too. Less dependibility, more freedom for both generations, I think.

I think only Kochi is listed in the AFC. Not sure about any other in India.
Thanks for sharing the knowledge, @TravellerG sir.

Cheers!

What you mentioned is very correct - the only AFC in India is Kochi… just awarded it on Dec 2024.

The job profile & the working style of the new generation is limiting their time to look after their parents… In the coming decades it will be a big problem for large country like India where elders will be left alone.
Thanks for your kind remarks and compliments, dear Ajit Ji…

Very interesting topic, dear @TravellerG ji! I enjoyed the post, it introduced me to UN Age-friendly World, a platform where people and organizations worldwide share knowledge and learn from each other. I believe it is still quite new in India.
