Hy Local Guides,
Today June 18th marks another important date known as Autistic Pride Day. This day promotes neurodiversity to embrace autistic identity and promote inclusion within the community.
This day is also a global movement led by Autistic Individuals to celebrate Autistic identity & community. It clearly outdated the idea of autism being something to be “cured” or “fixed” but rather than to celebrate with Pride.
Rainbow infinity symbol represents diversity of Autism spectrum and thought of infinite possibilities.
This day is also celebrated by individual with Autism who represents themselves in LGBTQAI+ or Pride spectrum.
How can we contribute as a Local Guide on this day?
As Autism comes under Cognitive Accessibility or individuals with Autism may need cognitive accessibility, we as a local guide can contribute towards this day or any day to Google Maps to help in for Cognitive Accessibility.
-
Featuring Accessibility - Taking photos of clear entrances of a store or shop, accessible bathrooms & clear menu printed or shown in the shop & contributing them to Google Maps can help in Cognitive Accessibility.
-
Age Friendly
- @TravellerG has clearly stated that his Initiative takes part to help in Accessibility & navigation, regardless of age or gender. Pointing out the "age friendly” keyword in our reviews can determine whether a business is accessible or not.
-
Quiet atmosphere
- Reviewing businesses or parks or museums with Noise levels such as very quiet, moderate noise, loud or very loud. This helps for sensory friendliness & offers accommodation for autistic individuals.
Another feature on Google Maps when reviewing a coffee shop or cafe showing how we can describe noise level which leads to sensory friendliness.
