A new mission takes off…
After visiting metros, stadiums, and covering other transport hubs, it’s time for us, as Local Guides, to bring our Accessibility lens to Airports.
Airports are gateways to the world—and every gate should open equally for everyone.
As the final Connect Live (Bangalore) of 2025 is around the corner, let’s bring the joy to Local Guides Connect as well.
That’s the idea behind the Accessible Airports Challenge, an inclusive and global initiative to document accessibility features at airports across countries, led by you, one Local Guide at a time.
I have set a goal of adding a minimum of 20 airports as part of the celebration of 20 years of our beloved Google maps. Join me in making it a challenge to remember.
The Format: One Local Guide, One Airport, One City
I am inviting Local Guides from different cities around the world to:
Choose or get assigned one airport
Host a meet-up and name it
"Accessible [City Name] Airport,
for example, Accessible Ahmedabad Airport.
Visit and explore:
- Ramps, wheelchair access, tactile flooring
- Parking and entrances
- Elevators, lifts, signage, washrooms
- Public transport links (metro, buses, taxi zones)

If you spot any Braille signage, please highlight and share it with us on connect and maps, I really encourage blind-friendly public transport.
Timeline
Start: September 15, 2025
End: September 30, 2025
Goal: Document accessibility at 20+ unique airports worldwide
Let’s make this a deadline-driven impact challenge with global visibility.
How to Join?
Step 1: Comment/DM your preferred airport. (It will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis, as the goal is host 20+ unique airports.)
Step 2: Receive your assigned airport (I will add the list of airports/cities in the post itself).
Step 3: Host your meet-ups
Step 4: Share your recap on Local Guides Connect using this format:
[RECAP] Accessible [City Name] Airport
Please include
- 3–5 photos showing accessibility features
- Your experience as a Local Guide
- You can share your Google maps review of the airport, which has accessibility information.
- Add accessibility tags
- Tag me, if possible.
A part of something bigger…
This challenge continues the broader vision of my accessible transport series, and now, we take that step toward Accessible Skies. Let’s fly with empathy, purpose, and shared responsibility.
Every participant will receive a certificate.
Airport List (Updated):
Thanks to every Local Guide who continues to champion accessibility. You are making Google Maps and our world a more inclusive place, one edit and post at a time. ![]()
