Provide Tool to Add Accessibility Icon ♿ to Photos

The Idea

Provide a feature that allows users to add the accessibility icon to pictures uploaded to Google Maps.

Please see the picture below for reference.

Accessibility Icon ♿️ added to a PictureAccessibility Icon ️ added to a Picture

The Benefit

1. The tool or feature will help local guides to quickly add the accessibility icon to photos on-the-fly at the time of uploading thus saving the hassle of first editing them in a photo-editor and stamping the icon on the picture.

2. When Differently-Enabled people see such enhanced pictures with the accessibility icon  it will help them to understand the place in a better way and to their benefit.

Podría incluir también un icono en rojo, donde denunciar los malos accesos. Buen trabajo @Tushar_Suradkar

Hi @Tushar_Suradkar

How does your idea align with the plans outlined in

https://www.blog.google/products/maps/wheelchair-accessible-places-Google-Maps

And here:

https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/Announcements/Making-Google-Maps-more-accessible-on-Global-Acc...

How can we be sure that your proposed icon will be added correctly and consequently if Maps users get this option?

Cheers

Absolutely agree my friend @MortenCopenhagen

I appreciate your comments.

The article you suggested mentions "People can now turn on an 'Accessible Places' feature to have wheelchair accessibility information more prominently displayed in Google Maps."

This feature too poses the same question that you've raised.

The answer is "Some prudence on part of the user is expected when using such tools."

My idea complements the existing one and gives a more visual appeal via the photos being uploaded by the local guides.

Okay, @Tushar_Suradkar

But could you not argue that info about accessibility fits better as a property of places rather than a property added to individual photos?

I'm just trying to help you strengthen your idea by asking critical questions. I'm not against improving the visibility of accessibility info on Google Maps.

All the best

Hi @MortenCopenhagen

I'm just trying to help you strengthen your idea by asking critical questions. I'm not against improving the visibility of accessibility info on Google Maps.

I could sense my friend that you are not against.

I am only trying to ride on the back of an existing idea to take it a notch ahead and make it better.

What works for the info section definitely works for photos.

Let there be many avenues to convey to the differently-abled that the place is accessible.

But could you not argue that info about accessibility fits better as a property of places rather than a property added to individual photos?

This additional facility of tagging photos with the accessibility  icon will only complement the existing ideas.

Every photo on Google Maps for a POI with the accessibility  icon stamped on it is going to help the differently-abled person immensely.

Thank you @HUMBERTO_V

You have an excellent idea.

In that case, I'd suggest posting a new idea in the Idea Exchange section.

Also, you may note that in my recap of the accessibility meetup, I have already used the red cross icon to indicate that the place has failed the accessibility criteria.
