Take Control of Your Interactions: How to Ignore or Mute Users on Connect

Sometimes, to maintain a positive experience in the community, you might want to limit interactions with specific accounts. Local Guides Connect provides two distinct ways to do this: Ignoring and Muting.

Here is a quick guide on how to manage these settings based on your preferences.

Understanding the Difference

Feature What it does
Ignored The “Total Silence” option. It suppresses everything—posts, messages, notifications, and chat direct messages from that user. You won’t see them at all.
Muted A lighter touch. This suppresses notifications and direct messages, but doesn’t necessarily hide their public posts from your feed.

How to Manage These Settings

To access these controls, follow the steps as follows:

  1. Click your Profile Photo > Preferences.
  2. Select the Users tab (as shown in the screenshot).

1. Adding a User to the “Ignored” List

  • Under the Ignored section, click the + Add… button.

  • Type in the username of the person you wish to ignore.

  • Duration: Please note that all ignores are automatically removed after the ignore duration expires. You can choose how long you’d like the filter to stay active:

    • Short-term: Later Today, Tomorrow, Later This Week, Next Monday.
    • Mid-term: Two Weeks, Next Month, Two Months, Three Months.
    • Long-term: Four Months, Six Months, One Year, or *Forever
  • Once added, their presence is effectively filtered out of your Connect experience.

2. Muting a User

  • Scroll to the Muted section.
  • Use the Select… box to find the user.
  • Click the + icon to add them. This is perfect for stopping unwanted pings while still being able to see community discussions.

Managing Your Messages

In this same menu, you can also control who is allowed to reach out to you privately:

  • Allow all: Check the box “Allow other users to send me personal messages.”
  • Restrict: Check “Only allow specific users…” if you want to create a “white list” of trusted friends.

Indtil a few weeks back the ignore feature was not hiding topics, so we needed to open the topics just to see a message that this topic was hidden. Fortunately, this is now fixed so topics from your ignored LGs are not longer showing up in your feeds.

Muting and Ignoring feature of Connect is a very useful yet often lesser known ones on connect. Thank you for sharing the step by step guide and the difference between these features @KetanChhaniyara and @NareshDarji bhai
