Hey everyone! Welcome to the latest instalment of our community help series, dedicated to helping you navigate Connect like a pro.
I’m Naresh, a Level 10 Local Guide from India, and I’ve been a Connect Moderator since 2020. Finding inspiration through travel, mapping my journeys, and attending Local Guides meet-ups brings me so much joy. With all the amazing interactions happening daily on this platform, managing your updates is key to a great experience.
Today, let’s dive into my favorite ways to stay organized in Community Help Series #3: Master Your Alerts: A Guide to Connect Notifications.
Staying active on Connect is a fantastic way to engage with fellow Local Guides, but a constant stream of alerts can sometimes feel overwhelming. Fortunately, the platform gives you detailed control over when and how you receive your updates, helping you maintain a healthy digital balance.
Here is a breakdown of how to customize your notification preferences to suit your daily routine.
How to Access Your Notification Settings
-
Click your Profile Photo in the top right corner.
-
Select Preferences.
-
Navigate to the Notifications tab on the left-hand menu.
1. General Notifications (Post Activity)
This section helps you manage alerts for direct interactions on your content.
-
Notify when liked: Instead of getting pinged for every single kudos, you can use the dropdown menu to consolidate these alerts. As shown in the settings, you can choose between:
-
Always
-
First time a post is liked and daily (This gives you a neat summary without cluttering your feed!)
-
First time a post is liked
-
Never
-
-
Shared Links: Keep the box checked for “Notify when someone shares a link to one of my posts” so you can easily track where your contributions and guides are being referenced across the community.
2. Live Notifications
Want real-time updates while you browse?
-
Click the Enable Notifications button to allow browser-level alerts.
-
Important Note: As the menu reminds us, this is a browser-specific setting. If you use Connect on both your phone and your desktop, you will need to enable this on each browser you use. Additionally, all notifications will be disabled if you pause them from the user menu, regardless of this setting.
3. Notification Schedule (Quiet Hours)
This is an excellent tool for ensuring you aren’t disturbed during focused hours, community meetups, or while you sleep.
-
Check the box for “Enable custom notification schedule.”
-
Set your active hours for each day of the week (for example, you can set it from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM).
-
How it works: Remember that outside of these specific timeframes, all your Connect notifications will be automatically paused, giving you dedicated, quiet offline time.
We hope you’ve enjoyed this quick introduction! If there’s a specific feature you’d like to explore further, let us know in the comments below, or browse the rest of the topics in this series.
