Recycled Paper & Renewable Resource ♻️

We all care deeply about our Mother Planet - ‘The Earth’ and strive to protect it in whatever small ways we can through our daily actions. Supporting this collective effort, Google Maps has become a powerful platform that allows us to contribute to environmental sustainability. Even the smallest contributions can make a meaningful difference.

We are especially thankful to the Local Guides team at Google, who consistently act on our feedback and suggestions to enhance the platform. A recent example of their responsiveness is the introduction of the sustainability tag on Connect. This feature was first requested in March 2025 via Connect and the feedback form, and it was officially rolled out on June 4, 2025.

As a personal habit, I make it a point to update sustainability attributes for the places I visit. I use the Edit features under the “About” tab on their Google Maps url to update recycling attributes. I also make sure to answer sustainability-related questions whenever prompted.

During a recent visit to Google’s Carina Building in Bengaluru, India, I discovered a simple yet powerful sustainability initiative. The office uses eco-friendly stationery made from recycled paper and renewable materials such as bamboo and wood. It’s a small change with a big impact; a perfect example of how thoughtful practices can contribute to a more sustainable future.

This is a simple yet impactful practice that can be easily adopted in corporate offices, workplaces, and even at home to contribute toward environmental conservation. It serves as a reminder for all of us to be morally and socially responsible citizens of our Mother Planet - ‘The Earth’.

Since the recycling attributes for this location were not yet available on Google Maps, I wasn’t able to update them directly. However, I made sure to upload a photo and post a detailed review to help raise awareness and spread the message.

I stay focused and observant when it comes to discover and share information related to the “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” practices on Google Maps for every place I visit.

I’d love to hear your thoughts - what’s your take on using Google Maps to support environmental initiatives, especially around recycling (Recycle to Save Earth to Save Yourself)? Feel free to share your ideas or suggestions in the comments. Let’s inspire each other.

Previously, I had submitted a suggestion via the feedback form to add “Sustainability” as a tag on Connect, which was successfully implemented. More recently, in July 2025, I proposed the idea of launching a “Sustainability Champion” featured post, recognizing active contributors who promote and practice sustainability across Google Maps, Connect, and within their communities. I brought up this idea again in our latest community discussion in September 2025, and it was met with positive feedback.

Let’s continue building an informed, connected, and stronger :flexed_biceps: community together.

Stay Happy, Stay Healthy!

@Kumaarsantosh What a cool project.

I hope every day that more companies will change their office supplies, especially their office supplies, and that they will start using digital media more, or at least start using sustainable materials.

Here in Canada, plastic utensils and plastic bags have been eliminated from our activities, and this has already made a big difference in our daily lives.

Thank you for your post and for making a difference every day.

What a wonderful and much-needed practice @GasparKaren to help protect our Mother Planet – Earth. Saying NO to plastics is a significant step forward and one of the least but most impactful actions we can take for the environment. I am truly glad to know that plastic has been eliminated in Canada and is already making a positive difference in the daily lives of citizens.

You have always been someone who actively supports and promotes sustainability practices @Rahul001. In fact, you were the very first to stand by my suggestion to introduce the sustainability tag on Connect and that meant a lot.

During Connect LIVE, it felt only natural to share and discuss how Google Maps serves as a powerful platform to promote sustainability. As the saying goes, “everything starts with you,” and Google truly embraces that philosophy.

I am so glad you appreciated the sustainable stationery at the Google office and even more thrilled that it inspired you to incorporate more eco-friendly products into your daily life.

Love this initiative @Kumaarsantosh ! :recycling_symbol: Using recycled paper and renewable materials like bamboo and wood is a simple yet impactful way to contribute to environmental conservation. Let’s continue to promote sustainability in our daily practices!

That’s an excellent initiative taken up by Google. I think Google is one of the leading companies who are actively involved in incorporating sustainable practices in their operations. The sustainable writing pad in a perfect example. Even on the connect platform, the team is working on the feedback we share with them, like adding the sustainability tag.
Thank you coach @Kumaarsantosh for this insightful post
