3. What I love about being a Local Guide: Besides showing love for my favorite places in my city, sometimes I love to look back at my reviews and read the details of what I enjoyed the most on my trips. It’s like a diary!
4. My favorite thing to explore: I love hiking and tropical destinations. So my favorite activity when I’m traveling is hiking to find secluded beaches or beautiful viewpoints. Also, I do my best to always try local food, and I’m always on the lookout for the most authentic restaurant. This also applies to India.
**5. Fun fact about me:**I will never not point and wave at every dog I see on the street, and possibly try to pet it. Not sorry!

Hello from Catalonia, a region in the northeast of Spain featuring 580 km of coastline to the east (half of it consisting of sunny beaches) and the beautiful Pyrenees mountain range to the north, that runs along the border with France.
Name: Alexandre (but please call me Alex).
Location: I currently live in Lleida, the capital of the innermost of the 4 provinces of Catalonia. It has a rich history spanning more than 2000 years, lots of surrounding nature (including the Segre river that crosses the city) and a great traditional gastronomy.
What I love about being a Local Guide: I decided to become a Local Guide after discovering that there were barely any potable water fountains of my city depicted in Google Maps. As I kept going I was surprised to discover many other types of places and things that were missing: gardens, monuments, paths, singular works of street art… I love to add these uncharted places, to help make Google Maps more thorough and more helpful to others. Being a Local Guide is also helping me to look at my city, and at other cities, with different eyes. I feel like a 21st century explorer!
My favorite thing to explore: In these times of increasing fresh water scarcity in many parts of the world, particularly of drinking water, I really enjoy learning about water bodies, water infrastructures and water resources available to us, and adding these to Google Maps. It gives me a sense of purpose.
Fun Fact about me: When I was a kid I loved climbing trees. The first signs of a fledgling explorer?
It is a pleasure to be a part of this community, I’m looking forward to many interesting interactions.

I hope that more Local Guides around the world will see the usefulness of engaging in mapping the potable water resources available in their own regions. As for me, I am thinking of contacting our local water museum to maybe start some sort of Google Maps-based collaboration. And I do have some fresh ideas for other types of contributions to the map…
