Hi @TiffanyBnyc, Thank you for sharing the milestone journey of LG.
I’m glad to be a part of this community from Bangladesh.
Wow what an incredible journey has been!
Cheers for many many years to come! Thank you all
Feliz Aniversario gente!

10 years already, @TiffanyBnyc
I joined the program in 2016, and I discovered Connect on the same year. I wanted to help the people involved in the Earthquake in central Italy, and I did it, thanks to the Local Guides Volunteer day 2016.
We arrived in Norcia with a van full of food and warm clothes. We met amazing Local Guides in there, like @manulele81 . In the following years we held a huge amount of meet-ups in the area, to update the maps, help the local population and businesses, to keep the attention on the problem alive.
2017 was the year in which we continued to work as Local Guides in the earthquake area.
it was such a significant work that Google wanted to tell it with a video
Some of the local guides we met back then are now friends with whom we often speak and collaborate together.

During one of the meet-ups I found a path at 1600 meters above sea level, completely accessible by wheelchair. From there Accessible Life was born
2017 was also many other things, for example “the best summit ever”, where I was able to meet Local Guides from all over the world, and above all my friendship with my “partner in crime” @KarenVChin was born. Here her version of the story: My San Francisco: Being a Local Guide for Another Local Guide
For more story of friendship during the Summit, the index of the series is here: LGsummit2017 - A local Local Guide guiding Local Guides [index] - #2 by ErmesT
2017 was also the year of the first wine meet-up. [Recap] Treviso Wine Meetup - November 25, 2017. We had Local Guides coming from other countries, and from there we started to think with @TorM about the first European Meet-up
2018 started with Local Guides Clean The World - A Local Guides project - #2 by ErmesT, and yes, this year it will be active again to celebrate the Earth Day with a worldwide “call to action” Earth Day 2025 Worldwide Meet-up - #LocalGuidesClean The World - Our Power, Our Planet™
The first Connect Live was for me an incredible experience, and I had the possibility to talk with an incredible Googler, @sashabg77 who literally helped me to change my approach to Accessibility. It took another year for Google Earth to make it possible to create projects. That’s when I was able to make Accessible Life real.
2019 was for me a year of “consolidation” of previous programs. And when everything was ready to start, 2020 arrived, with Covid and having to completely change the way of approaching the Community and everyday life.
Community Live started by @AdrianLunsong was an amazing moment, but the funniest part for us was the organization, a huge “behind the scenes” work with video calls that united opposite sides of the planet. I still remember a very funny one with @PennyChristie.
2021 was the second year of lock down. We had become accustomed to interacting in a “virtual” way, so I suddenly projected myself at the Geo For Good summit, with the “official” recognition of Accessible Life, two speech, one as a panelist, a meet-up.
An incredible emotion. Before I had time to recover, 2022 had arrived, when a terrible war involved many of my friends. It was time to talk about Friendship
I was selected twice as a Guiding Star, and for some mysterious reason, on September 2021 I was one of the first Local Guide to have the Road Editor for desktop enabled on my profile. This gave me the opportunity, in 2022, to conclude that journey that began in Norcia six years earlier: Mapping for Good - New roads in the Earthquake area of Italy - Google Maps contribution stories - Local Guides Connect
From then on, the number of added roads has grown enormously, becoming over 80,000 today.
Thanks @TiffanyBnyc for sharing some of the memorable moments of Local Guides
Alucino en todo lo que he participado este tiempo, des de #LGCleantheworld , #TRAC , y mi mayor logro personal, conseguir ser un Guiding Star . Felicidades a todos, continuamos!

10 years of Local Guides, wow does time fly! Thanks for such an incredible recollection of so many initiatives and programs by Guides from all around the globe over the past decade, @TiffanyBnyc .
Definitely quite emotional while reading through and remembering fond memories. Having the amazing opportunity to attend multiple Summits/Connect Lives, meeting so many friends that I continue to keep close til this day. What really stands out to me is how we all grew even closer, albeit virtually , in 2020 and kept the community’s momentum going.
The impact beyond the program and the Google Maps platform is undeniable and I’m looking forward to the next decade!
It’s so amazing to be able to remember all these moments on this incredible timeline. Congratulations to everyone involved, I’m so happy to be able to be part of this story, with so many incredible people.
hi @TiffanyBnyc Local Guides has big impact in my life. I write more about it: My Memorable Local Guides Journey through the years

Thank you @TiffanyBnyc for sharing this post ! This is an amazing summary of some of the best milestones we as a community achieved !
I would love to mention few my best colaborative series and achievements through the years of being a Local Guide :
- 2020-2022 : I started #MapsForAll meet-up series that focused on meeting Local Guides on a monthly basis to learn, share tips & knowledge about accessibility, ways to help out Local businesses and reflect inclusivity on Maps ! We can also learn and do fun Map edits meet-ups focusing on making Maps Inclusive for all ! Hosting educative and fun learning meet-ups was the main motto of the meet-ups conducted through this series. I also was awarded the ‘Guiding Star-Inclusive Mapper’ twice , once on 2020 and once in 2022. I have some of the best memories of meet-up collabs and meeting new Local Guides across the globe during this period. I loved being a part of ‘Google Earth - Accessible Life’ project by @ErmesT and Accessibility Uncovered series by @EmekaUlor as a part of #OneAccessibility team !
- 2023-2024 : I started the #GoGreenWithMaps which focuses on hosting meet-ups , learning , sharing tips & knowledge and highlighting local businesses that support the environment and help us to keep our earth green n clean through posts on Connect that help keep the earth green and clean and reflect Sustainability on Maps ! We had learning and doing fun Map edits meet-ups,challenges , trivia focusing on making Maps and Lists that support #ReduceReuseRecycle ! The Tokyo CM meet-up in Oct 2023 was the highlight of this period ! I got to meet many of my Connect Moderator friends and Googlers in person !
- 2025 : I kicked off the year with #HandmadeHeritage series dedicated to supporting local artisans, celebrating their craftsmanship, and promoting small businesses worldwide. Throughout my time using the Connect platform and connecting with #LocalGuides globally, I’ve come to appreciate the unique arts and crafts each country has to offer ! These local artisans learn their family’s traditional art and come up with some of the most beautifully hand-crafted items ! I am glad to we have the Connect and Maps forum that allows us to explore diverse cultures, learn about their traditions, and support artisans by helping grow their businesses using Maps ! Together we can bring out the cultural richness of our heritage and help support local artisans and their local businesses !
Many more series like Lets Inspire on Connect & Beyond - Women & allied spotlight series upcoming up soon !
Wishing Google Maps a very Happy birthday !
It’s hard to believe that every year since the Local Guides program started it’s getting more and more difficult to contribute to the Maps.
What a great set of highlights from over the years, @TiffanyBnyc. I’ll hit my 10 years in April, I believe. I’m so happy to have been able to participate in many of the milestones and accomplishments alongside my fellow LGs. I look forward to continuing on in 2025!
Thanks to you, the Google team, and the Connect Moderators for giving us all such a great platform and community.
Happy 10th Anniversary Local guides
