Friendship Without Borders - A Local Guides Connect Topic

Sometimes events guide our choices, about what to do tomorrow, and even what to write today.

Today my thoughts, and my fingers, decided for me it was time to talk about friendship, and how friendship crosses borders.

Connect, is the name of this community, Local Guides Connect. Never could a name be more appropriate. A space where Local Guides could “Connect” with each other, share their experiences, tell about the country they live in, their travels, their food. A place to learn and teach, a place to share one’s knowledge with others. A place where language, culture, religion are not barriers but, on the contrary, are stimuli for learning.

How many of us, after joining the Community, have become friends even though they live in different countries, and have never met?

How many of us, after reaching the Community, have discovered foods they had never tried, and of which they are now greedy?

How many of us, after reaching the Community, have discovered places that we have added to our wish list, or that maybe, after reading them here, we have also visited?

How many of us, after reaching the Community, were able to learn that many clichés relating to places we did not know (or even that we thought we knew) were actually wrong?

I raise my hand first, to say me. It sure happened to me about all the questions.

I can add that I have been even more fortunate, as I have been able to meet many of these Local Guides in person. Local Guides from more than 50 different countries. Local Guides From six different Continents.

Sure, you say, this is easy if you have participated in three Official Google Events. I agree, it’s easy this way.

It is less easy when you have to travel for hundreds or thousands of miles. Yet it has happened, and I am sure it will happen again.

I can’t tag everyone here, that would be way too many. But I know for a fact that sometimes it has happened to you too, and that in your meet-ups there are people who connect from other countries of the world. Or they are events that you organize together. Or simply Local Guides with whom you have become friends in Connect, in posts, and with whom you have a private chat. With some Local Guides from countries other than mine I chat EVERY DAY, can you believe it?

Let’s send a Message of Friendship to the world.

  • What are the Local Guides from other countries (or even from cities other than your own) that you became friends with after getting to know each other here in Connect?
  • Have you ever met in person?
  • How do you collaborate with each other?

If you want to tell it, reply to this post. Or write a post on this subject, starting the title with Friendship Without Borders.

I to me zaista čini sretnom.

Vidjela sam mnogo zanimljivih stvari ovdje i puno, puno toga novoga naučila.

Thank you my friend @TravellerG

Even if we never met in person, we had a lot of opportunities to meet virtually, here and in our meet-ups, sharing common passions and learning from each other. I am also thinking about the long conversations I had with @Ewaade_3A , sharing experiences, or other Local Guides from all over the world.

We all live in the same world.

Friendship cannot be stopped by borders

Hey @ErmesT

These are very inclusive topics and it keeps connect bubbling and alive. I’ve had nice experiences with some friends I’ve met on connect as well. Like @TusharSuradkar like @MukulR like Austine etc we haven’t met in person but these are all friends I met here on connect.

My meet-up last year in some other city in Nigeria is one I’ll like to write a post about and hastag you on. Looking at the photos of the local guides I met there in the space of 2 weeks was amazing,it’s a nice memory.

Thanks for all your assistance on connect and for this post as well.

Cheers

Croatia is a beautiful country, @renata1 , that I had the opportunity to visit several time for vacation and for work, from Rovinj down to Zadar , and I know that your country suffered a lot too, not long time ago.

I still have a lot of friends there, and I think that when everything will be over I will be happy to bring my car and cross the border once more.

Hugs

Hvala vam @ErmesT

Da, dobro ste rekli, “Hrvatska je ne tako davno propatila”.

Imali smo rat 1991. godine.

Bilo je strašno…

Sličan scenarij kao i sada u Ukrajini

Godine prolaze, ali neke rane nikada zacijeliti neće.

Hello dear friend, @ErmesT

So kind of you to respond in detail.

“… we had a lot of opportunities to meet virtually…”, yes you are very correct - thanks for your kind remarks.

Unfortunately, our dear. @Ewaade_3A is not very active off late due to her personal preoccupancy.

Friendship is transparent to any type of Borders; incidentally, we are 3 Musketeers… Our friendship started when I was in 1st post-graduate studies… We continued (even today) our friendship adding our families to that…

And, I request you to kindly permit me to tag our friends @Anil6969 , @FalguniP & @AjitThite … Im sure they will like this post for sure.

Thanks for your reply, @TravellerG

You are welcome to tag friends in here.

Yes, I know that life is keeping @Ewaade_3A busy (I follow her on social media), and that’s the reason why I wanted to tag her here: to let her know that she’s in our mind. We don’t forget our friends

Thank you so much, @Shola4sure , we are all citizens of the world, and the world is only one.

Who spends the entire holidays changing hospitals and having surgery? Me

Social Media and all it represents is just what it is, you never know what people are going through except you reach out.

Pray that I get well soon. Immensely, I am grateful to God for his mercies @ErmesT

Thanks @TravellerG

It can sound, but Farid was my first Connect Moderator when I joined Connect in 2016. He helped me to grow as a Local Guide, and quickly we became friends. Two years later, thanks to Google, we finally had the opportunity to meet for the very first time in California. The day before the summit Google Invited us for an interview about the program in Google San Francisco, where Karen was invited too.

It was deeply emotional to be there, all together, for the very first time. Farid and I spent 8 days together, we shared the room in the hotel, we visited the same places, we took a lot of photos and, if possible, when we went back home we were more friend than the previous week.

We build friendship

Just a week ago I received a mail from @Cecilita that I want to show you.

In the future I think she will tell us the reason, but again, another #FriendshipWithoutBorders
