As someone passionate about digital inclusion, my Connecting Rural India series has been focused on mapping rural areas by travelling across villages, promoting accessibility, and ensuring rural communities are part of the digital map. It’s inspiring to see how Local Guides have played a crucial role in improving accessibility and making information available to millions, from cities to remote villages.
This forum has given me a countless number of friends whom I would cherish for life; I cannot name all of them (if I miss someone, then they wouldn’t let me go ). Congratulations to everyone, from local guides to developers to marketers of this programme, and to every single person who contributed to making maps and this forum better. @TiffanyBnyc
Wow wow wow thank you for sharing such a beautiful post @TiffanyBnyc .
And I’m so thankful to Local Guides team and @Googlers that you remember our (@JaneBurunina and mine)'s small efforts.
That was truly an amazing time for us because not only did we learn a lot ourselves, but I also feel very proud to say that many of our friends learned from us as well. And whenever they received the title of Accessibility Champion, they always remembered us.
I feel extremely proud that you considered our efforts worthy of mention in the yearly milestone posts for this mega celebration.
Thank you so much!
Shukriya
Happy Birthday, Google Maps
Together we celebrate our favorite Google Maps 20th anniversary on February 08, 2025, at Dhaka, Bangladesh. The Local Guides Bangla community organized this event.
Thank you for your informative post @TiffanyBnyc
Outstanding milestones @ErmesT !
You and other Local Guides have made valuable contributions and changes in the communities. That’s the essence of being a Local Guide.
Very nice recap @TiffanyBnyc ! I still remember vividly where I was when I read the announcement about the Local Guides program replacing the City Experts program. Now it’s been 10 years since then… how time flies.
@TiffanyBnyc Many thanks for sharing the news with us. I am happy to see that you have mentioned an old connect page link – “Map Hospitals in India” in your above post. So much memories, I was there in the video and I recall some people came from different part from the world to my country (even to my home) in India to shoot the video.
I joined Local Guides program in 2015, the same year when this program started. I am very lucky that I was one of the 75 Local Guides who participated in #LGSummit16 - the first inagural summit in California.
There was another summit #LGSummit17 ( named The best summit ever) in california in the year 2017 as well and I was there with 150 Local Guides. I remember my Local Guides mapping video has published in YouTube during the summit17. Here’s is the video link.
Happy 10th Birthday Local Guides Mapping.
Thanks @TiffanyBnyc for bringing such amazing stories . I am really grateful to be part of the grand 10 years celebration of Bangladesh Local Guides. Here’s more to come
Thanks dear @TiffanyBnyc for sharing this wonderful journey.
Happy to be part of such beautiful family of LGs around the globe
There are many sweet memories of this journey.
@TiffanyBnyc
That was an interesting bit of history in the making.
I joined the program in 2017 and my highlight was going to the 2018 and 2019 connect live.
I’m looking forward to more travels and continuing to add to Google maps with information that will help people in their decision making.
I did quite a fair bit of travel in Europe, South East Asia, Canada, Alaska and America in 2023 and 2024 in particular and it gave me great pleasure adding to Google maps my reviews and photos and edits every where I go to improve accuracy.
Wonderful journey of LG Connect and Google Map. Thanks so much @TiffanyBnyc for details information.
Felicidades ara todos los LG!
Congratulations
Thanks @TiffanyBnyc for sharing wonderful insight. Happy 10years to local guides.
My most memorable moment was attending mega meetup in pune india where I got opportunity to meet googler @Latika_Malhotra ma’am
For 2025
Hoping for more such exciting mega meetups where we can meet all the local guides from India.
Hope to get Google goodies too for LGs😀
It is a wonderful and very moving article. My adventure started long ago, but being chosen as a guiding star in 2022 was a wonderful feeling for me. While I was experiencing this happiness, many earthquakes occurred in the city I lived in. Frankly, my happiness was left unfinished, but later, when many of my guide friends sent me messages of support from here, I felt very happy and peaceful. I am glad that I am a member of such a community.
Wow, it’s so nice to be a part of this community.
Congratulations on 10-year anniversary
I’m on Level 9 currently and started adding things on Google Maps for about 10 years ago.
Great to see that community is growing.
@TiffanyBnyc Wow! It’s truly incredible to see how far the Local Guides program has come over the past 10 years. This journey has been nothing short of inspiring, with so many passionate individuals making a real impact—whether through accessibility advocacy, environmental clean-ups, or simply sharing hidden gems that help millions easily navigate the world.
For me, being part of this community has been an unforgettable experience. From organizing community support initiatives to encouraging more women to join the Local Guides program through the Women Inspirer series, every moment has been filled with purpose and connection. Seeing how contributions, big and small, create meaningful change is what makes this program so special.
As we celebrate this milestone, I’m excited about what’s to come in 2025! More meet-ups, more accessibility efforts, more inspiring stories—there’s so much we can achieve together.
Here’s to the next decade of mapping, sharing, and making a difference!
It makes me really happy to be a part of this beautiful community, we are unique! Only us to understand each other, why we do what we do!
This year I’m looking forward to connect even more!
Wow 10 years, congratulations. Local guides. @TiffanyBnyc
It’s great to celebrate the anniversary, and @TiffanyBnyc your presentation is good. I still remember the moment of my first review and importance of becoming a Local Guide, and I’m enjoying the LG Journey as always. Life is running very fast; suddenly, it’s been 10 years. Let’s keep exploring! congrats to all LG’s
